I got an offer from Microsoft in a strategy role. The position was technically called “Senior business planner”. All in expected 230k per year, up to 270k with exceptional performance. Had done 1 year CB, MBA, 2 years IB, and 1 year PE at the time.
This is awesome. Encouraging to know for sure. Thank you for sharing.
I’ll give you my background as it’s interesting but I did it. I graduated in ‘20 from a tech school (RIT) but had studied business/marketing. First full time role was a debt relief sales job that I did well at but hated - RE did my resume to sound more analytical/finance heavy and got head Hunted by a CITI recruiter, only did one year then just got promoted to assistant Vice President. I’m in risk data analytics reporting and technology (heavy on tableau/SQL/excel) with the ability to interact with developers and risk managers. It’s very doable if you want it mad enough, my next move is PWC hopefully senior associate in consulting for risk/regulatory reform then work till partner or leave for FAANG/some other company. I’m ambitious but if you can make an opportunity for yourself, fake it till you make it.
Do you have any technical skills? If not, there are always online resources like Coursera
Having a tech background and a finance background is extremely lucrative as these companies can’t find anyone with both knowledge basis, the work life balance is amazing and obviously pay is on point now - but insane down the road. Dm me if I can help
Yep - moved into fintech sales/marketing
Have seriously considered transitioning to tech multiple times. Currently researching and practicing programming languages trying to teach myself as much as I can before I speak with a recruiter. I agree that everyone I see moving from finance to tech seems much happier and is making more.
