No I have not. What area are you looking for work in?

I do capital markets, some M&A, corporate governance and general corporate. Looking at how I can start doing some work to supplement my BD efforts and develop a client base to eventually start my own firm.

I used UpWork as a side gig for writing legal articles but not to start my own firm. Happy to provide my thoughts if you’re interested in that.

I'd love to know your thoughts!

I would ask the solo/small firm bowl. I’ve never used Upwork but doing contract work and getting your name out there with other attorneys that know your work product and eventually some send you clients

Went through a rough patch earlier this year and it made me realize who my real friends are. Thinking about trying to make new friends but don’t even know how to start. I’ve heard people use Bumble BFF, but aside from that, what’s a good way to make new friends?

Anyone else feel extra anxiety knowing our companies are under constant, intense, international regulatory scrutiny? I’m working on a Saturday (which never happens) stressing out over a minor product decision that I wouldn’t think twice about if if was for a small company. I love this job, but holy moly do our decisions have big ripple effects.

Please share experience with Agile in IA. Seems like a lot of time spent in meetings.

For those with MS suite, any apps you’d recommend in addition to standard Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Teams? Milestones was OK, but Tasks seemed a useless.

Has anyone negotiated for a higher pay increase after year-end reviews?

I’m tired of getting nothing but expected to take on more every year.

Xbox game recommendations that my wife and I can play together?

We recently finished Beacon Pines, which she really liked. We’ve also played Haven and For The King.

Preferably story based games or games that don’t require advanced controller skills

Has anyone taken phr/sphr exams? If so, would you mind chatting? Thanks

Is the hiring freeze only affecting AWS or do you see it as well in non-tech roles?

What’s up friends - working on my first deal in the manufacturing industry. What is a typical % for annual cost of Sales as a % of Net Sales? The company im looking at is over 85% annually and that seems incredibly high but want to make sure it’s not a weird manufacturing industry norm lol

Favorite blw bib, utensil, plate brands? Is silicone ok?

So the partner threatened to fire me because I don’t usually submit my timesheet daily (and I mean DAILY, he checks everyone’s timesheet at 9AM). I’m thinking about quitting because I think threatening termination for this type of pettiness is BS, and even the strictest firms I’ve worked at had a 72-hour policy. Is this common?

Looking at a lateral move to a west coast firm that pays first years $140k in the office I'm looking at. What is a reasonable salary for a 5th year? I'd be moving into a smaller market. Currently in LA and I'm not sure what to expect.

Just got back from 6 weeks of paternity leave and am absolutely swamped. I am back on multiple deals plus my regulatory work and am feeling pretty overwhelmed. Any advice for forcing yourself to get back into the grind of billing 10+ hour days while caring for a baby?

Recession lay offs? I have heard some cases of stealth lay offs mostly in big law transactional. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, transactional or litigation?

When a recruiter tells you to apply directly for a role “because you’ll have better chances,” does that mean you’re not a good fit for the role?
There’s an opening at a firm, and one recruiter told me to apply direct. Another told me she’d submit me herself and not to apply directly. I haven’t gotten back to one or the other (only initial calls)

Quandary! Accepted a recruiters offer to submit me out of a moment of anger/disappointment. Did some interviews to follow thru. Now they want to offer me. Offer should be stellar and above market and a healthy amount more than I’m currently comp’d. BUT, the issues at current firm have been remedied, I’m happy, love my coworkers, and am up for partnership this yr. Haven’t been here long and moving now will be 6th firm in 7 yrs. How do I reject (if I should??) an offer without…

1st year corporate lawyer here at a regional firm in Canada — in a major city but likely not the first ones that’ll come to ppl’s mind. Department is experiencing a shortage of juniors, not hiring. Ppl say it’s great learning opportunity etc, but I can’t constantly do a 3rd year lawyer’s job. The firm has many great lawyers but some admin staff (including my assistant) are so incompetent and just make my job more difficult. Lateral may not happen any time soon and feel hopeless and trapped.

How do you celebrate when you close a deal or win a case?

When applying for a position that has not been posted, should you include a cover letter or just submit a resume and see if they request a cover letter?

Currently working for a small firm. He just hired a new associate so I do not see myself getting a significant annual raise in the near future. I’ve been looking around and found a mid-size firm that can offer me almost double what I am making now but i’m kind of going back and forth. My current boss hired me fresh out of law school and i’ve learned a tremendous amount through his mentorship but I need to make more money and get benefits that I don’t have now. Thoughts?

To the a-hole opposing counsel that wouldn't grant an extension off the day after Thanksgiving - get ready to be ridden hard the rest of this year and the next. You're going to get hell from me.

Has anyone ever been put in a position to decide whether to choose a job where you can make a difference (ie prosecutor, public defender) vs a job that offers you a lot of money (ie enough to take care of your family, parents, etc.)? If so, how did you choose? Any guidance or thoughts from anyone would be helpful😣

PSA for all the non-sciency lawyers out there - PLEASE start pronouncing the word niche correctly. It is neesh, not nitch. We are way too educated to be using the incorrect pronunciation!

For those traveling out of their work city to wfh from somewhere else for a few days, do you tell anyone you’re doing so or do you just go? If the latter, do you just book flights at hours you’d be logged off?

Does anyone use a reMarkable, and if so, is it worth the price? I like being able to hand write instead of typing, but I’m trying to find a way to stop using so many legal pads.

When lateraling to another defense firm, is it necessary to show billable hours at current firm?

Any thoughts on morrison foerster DC office patent prosecution?

Is it legal/ethical/normal for a firm to take out a life insurance policy on an employee it finds out has been battling serious health issues (and has the employee reluctantly sign a consent to it)?

What’s the worst way a firm/partners reacted when you gave notice?

V50 BigLaw education background check as a lateral associate. What does that entail?
