Yah they’re really blunt

like

Be very straight forwards with them. Set clear expectations on deliverables and timelines. Expect push back / questions if things are unclear or feel unreasonable.

like

Oh my people 🤣 yes, definitely set clear expectations/deliverables with precise timelines. You might want to allow for some extra time on your deliverable as being timely is sometimes a problem. I suggest being very direct, and not sugar coating anything, if there is a problem you can just say “I have a problem with your team not delivering this, why is that and how/when are you going to fix this?” Also don’t take it personally if people are blunt in response. There is also less sensitivity around gender issues.

Also, expect some Donald Trump jokes.

Hi from Europe. Which country?

Okay I think what you may find different as an American is they won’t sugar coat stuff for you. They may be direct. It’s not personal. They also may work harder during business hours but switch off on weekends and evenings entirely- though each company is different.

Hi ladies! We started this bowl because a few of us recently took new positions in the midst of COVID and are struggling with WFH. Here’s my story, please share yours! Just moved to a new country and joined a big local firm as a junior. I am a chronic procrastinator and I think it’s because I have low self-confidence, esp. with my writing style. Accountability is key to my productivity, and unless I’m micromanaged, I struggle to self-discipline. Will be sharing resources and tips in next post!

Serious question: As a Registered Nurse with 11 years sales experience, why am I constantly turned down for healthcare-related sales roles? Yet on the flip side, I've gotten tons of offers in industrial or engineering spaces. I've worked PRN as a nurse while I've been in sales. All of my sales roles were engineering-based in mechanical tools or chemicals. I've sold into various industries (energy, O&G, aerospace, pharma, HI&I, water treatment, etc). Just looking to get back to my roots.

Do McK / Bain do lateral manager hires? If so, is there an active pipeline or more based on specific group / office need? And what’s the most effective way to apply (ie how critical is a referral)?

Question for you sales and saas guys. I work for a fast growing startup and we are billing around 200 K a month. I am in charge of the sales team and our CFO mandates that we collect ACH payment information on every agreement. The problem with this is we have to reel in micro deposit amounts from customers and it feels like herding cats. I’ve worked for three great tech companies and I’ve never had ACH nor have I ever paid for services with ACH. Is this a totally dated process?

One of the most emotionally deflating aspects of COVID has been that I don't have anything to look forward to. Vacations, outings with friends, family get-togethers, etc. I am tempted to book a trip to one of my normal vacation spots 🌺 for May 202 since the flights are so ridiculously cheap that even if I cancelled I wouldn't care but it puts a carrot on the calendar for me. Anybody else doing the same? Anybody betting on dates we can safely vacation and booking in advance now?

Any thoughts on the best certifications to get in order to help move forward? I have considered the CCP from World at Work, but it’s fairly pricey to get by the time you wrap up everything. I was looking at both SHRM-CP and SPHR. Everyone that I have spoken to has the SHRM, but that’s also only looking at individuals in a small geographic footprint and within 3-4 different companies. I was hoping to get some thoughts on this from others? Thanks
