Has anyone in here received an above market end of year bonus? How much was it over and how many hours over target were you?

Fortunate to have the opportunity to work for either a Fintech company or a Health Informatics company (both companies are leaders in their respective spaces). Which sector (Fintech vs. Health Informatics) would you advise pursuing? And why? Pay offer for both is the same.

Now EPAM ANYWHERE is offering me 26.4LPA full fixed + 75k Joining Bonus where the existing offer is not mentioned.

Will they accept Counter offer or when the DOJ is very close will they revise the package ? I am expecting a package between 29-32LPA.

Anyone left Deloitte within one year and had to pay the Joining Bonus just because the date of resignation falls in that 1 Year period.

I have an associate full-time offer from a Big4 & an Analyst offer from a decent consulting firm. The pay is in the 60 range for big4 and 70s for consulting firm.
What would you do? I'm not sure what the consulting job will be like but I wouldn't need a masters degree which is great. I am also an analytics minor which is useful.

I’m a cradle Catholic and my faith has been a big part of my identity. I’ve been a liturgical minister, altar server, lector.. I’ve regularly gone for Catholic retreats, adult Catholic education etc. - all this to say I’ve been pretty serious and invested in my faith
However I’m having a crisis of faith right now. I’m appalled and embarrassed by the way in which the Catholic Church in America (where I now live) is IMO unashamedly political (cont.)

Thoughts on inviting associates/partners to your wedding? I’m in a small group at my firm and every associate above me has invited the entire group and the partners (plus SOs, of course) to their wedding. My wedding is local and definitely not a small wedding… do I have to invite them…..

For those of you who have taken mental health or a similar medical leave, how long did you take? Debating between requesting 2 or 3 months but not sure if too long.

Transactional associates: do you bill your time while you are up late at night waiting for either: 1) opposing counsel doc reverts; or 2) when someone senior on your team asks to do something, but you are waiting for them to finish so you can do that something?

Another home-grown associate is leaving my group… we experienced at least 2/3 attrition in 2021 and I thought I had grown used to this, but it still got me feeling a little down. We weren’t particularly close and I think it still makes sense for me to stay with my group for now, but can’t help feeling unmotivated with almost everyone around you leaving…

Senior BL (M&A) associate here ready to quit, even though I haven’t lined anything up yet. Just had enough of it all. Anything I should keep in mind? Fortunate to be in a very strong financial position, so not worried about that aspect. Current goal is to exit law for something business side (hope to achieve this mainly through my network). How do you all reconcile your current very high salaries with living a normal lifestyle? For example, my spouse is in big law and I make 25% of that salary (also a lawyer). Presumably, if the spouse leaves big law, there would be a massive drop in salary. We want to buy a forever home. With our current income, the homes we’ve been eyeing are a joke (so cheap) but with 2x MY current income (assuming spouse leaves big law), the house is a stretch. What to do…

Is it common for junior/mid-level associates to receive a portion of originations as part of their compensation in big law?

How important are annual reviews? Sometimes I think they can be subjective and are based on how much the partner likes you. My evaluations range from far exceeds expectations to meets expectations. Do you have to only receive “far exceeds expectations” to be a superstar Junior/Mid-level and eventually make it to Partnership/Counsel? As I become more senior, I’m trying to see if this career is something that I can excel in. Or if I’m stressing and losing sleep over something I’m just OK at.

I know Gunderson is known for more early stage work, but is there a benefit to being at a full service firm like Goodwin when I know that what I’m looking for will be at Gunderson?

Just found out my salary is $3k p.a. below median for my firm’s class year (but way above base).

I don’t really know how to react to that. On the one hand, thankfully $3kpa post tax isn’t going to make any difference to my life but I feel aggrieved that I am below par.
