Has anyone interviewed for and begun a new job while pregnant? If so, what's the etiquette for disclosing?

I was obviously pregnant (7-8 months) and I brought up the concern myself as I was nervous. Deloitte HR laughed and said 'we wouldn't let a few years of your life define the many extra years of incredible experience you bring". Love Deloitte for that!

like

When did you bring it up? After you had started?

Yes! Going through it now. Firstly, legally, you do not have to disclose, and to qualify for state or federal benefits, you only need to disclose 30 days prior to birth, usually. When I started interviewing for my current job, I had just found out I was pregnant. I got the offer and started about a month later, around 12 weeks pregnant. This week is 21 weeks and I plan to tell work next week. It’s tough, bc I wanted to make an impression before being seen as the pregnant person at work. I can keep you posted on what happens next week if you’re interested! Good luck to you- what’s your situation?

Great! Also, assuming you will be remote like most of us are right now, you don’t have to worry about them seeing you showing and forcing you into announcing. I’m going to try to negotiate mat leave pay next week even though I don’t qualify for any based on their tenure policies.

During the interview..I was showing a lot obviously. Like I mentioned I was 7or almost 8 months along.

Somewhat related question - do you qualify for FMLA after birth if you’ve been with an employer for less than 1 yr?

Not usually. Law states " In order to be eligible to take leave under the FMLA, an employee must (1) work for a covered employer, (2) work 1,250 hours during the 12 months prior to the start of leave.." just look up FMLA on any law site.

I'm not a mom yet (don't kick me out of the group!) but have been going through fertility and IVF treatments for more than 6 months. I'm constantly having bloodwork, appointments and calls with the doc during working hours. Any advice on what I can and should tell my team about my health? They can tell I'm in and out of the doctor's office and I suspect they think I'm pregnant. Maybe it's being chock-full of hormone pills, but I'm sensitive about everyone thinking I'm pregnant when I'm not.

Random question but do you let your kids hang out in your bedroom and use your master bath if applicable? My kids always seem to want to use our bathroom instead of theirs and my spouse doesn't care but I grew up with my parent's room basically being off limits and think I'd prefer it that way.

Concerned about personal growth also slowing with slower culture 5 yoe and current TC is 120k, so either is a nice bump
