I was in an product design interview at a startup. Both of the technical and culture interview went well. Especially the design team seemed impressed after walking though my portfolio. I requested the process to be expedited and I got a reply to meet the cofounder the next day.

Today got the email from the recruiter that they are doing the candidate roundup this week and he can let me know about a decision before end of this week.

Hi Fishes, my joining date in EY is June 1st...so variable pay will be credited next year June ?

Choosing between 2 industry job offers. One pays $9k more than the other and has better benefits (unlimited pto, company gives random mental health days off, great health insurance, etc). The other offer pays less, but I enjoy the job description more and I connected more with my interviewers. Benefits are subpar though (only 15 days of pto per year for the first 4 years, high health insurance costs). Would you choose lower pay and not so great benefits if it meant you’d enjoy your job more?

Why do recruiters ask for your availability to interview...and then pick times outside of windows provided? I would rather you tell me what window is open and I choose from my options. It seems alot less frustrating

I actually have a question: husband had 4th (final) interview with company last Tuesday, emailed them follow up Wednesday, heard back Thursday, them saying that they will be in touch with him “next week with next steps”. Still haven’t heard anything back. Not sure what is going on…?

Not trying to read too much into signs because I don’t want to get hopes up to be let down, but what does it mean that a recruiter follows up an email within 1hr not by email, but phone call with an update that I’m one of the two final candidates. I’m getting interview burnout during my job search and this being the first time a recruiter followed up by phone instead of email and quickly at that. I am not sure how, but I have never had to present a case study for an interview. I have the prompts but not sure how granular to get. How in depth with companies get when your knowledge is external and based on a few weeks of shopping around? Any advice?

I was recently laid off from a OEM start up in a 20% company wide work force reduction. I have had multiple interviews since then and almost all, except one have said I was being pushed to the next round. Out of the couple that I was told I was pushed to the next round, one or two have just vanished and won’t return emails or phone calls. I understand things can change (found someone better suited) but is this ghosting thing a norm now?

Hypothetically speaking: You are interviewing w/the Hiring Manager. You are enthusiastic, well-versed and appropriately caffeinated. Throughout the interview, the HM yawns on camera - 4 times. Not your average yawn, more like a hippo yawn - including the sound that comes with it. Would you think they heard your answers during those yawns? Should you expect an invitation to the next round?

Hi, has anyone had this before: been a month sense interview, my online status never changed so I sent a follow up email to the supervisor, within an hour instead of getting a response my online status changed from consideration to pending decision. Is that bad? The hiring manager never responded to me just updated online status, is that a NO? I am so confused and never seen an online status get updated right after a follow up email.

In a recruiter perspective, how is the background check process done when there’s a third party company involved? I’m assuming information is provided and recruiters reach out to previous employers correct?

I have an interview coming up with Church & Dwight. When the recruiter emailed me with 3 interview times I thought he was asking me what time works best. Turns out he was telling me I was scheduled for 3 different interviews for 3 different teams in one day. Has anyone heard of a company doing that or gone through this for an interview? I mistakenly mentioned a client name when I was talking about my product management skills. This was for a product manager role interview at Apple that focused on Customer support.
I instantly realized that I shouldn’t have done that but I didn’t say anything because the interviewer seemed to be unbothered but he wrote something down. Also he continued with the interview like nothing happened. Am I screwed???

Is submitting job references obsolete?

I didn’t get asked one for my current role and it’s looking like I won’t for the one I’m interviewing for now.

To be fair, all anyone ever does is pick people they know will say really good things anyway. So maybe removing them just saves everyone time.
