Tax people who work with ASC 740 concepts won’t have that hard of a time adjusting since we need to understand books to adjust to the tax. It’s not as mine blowing as people think. Would there be a learning curve sure. But it’s not unrealistic
I’ve seen a few examples of tax managers moving to accounting manager/controller positions at mid-size companies. All have done well in the role and have advanced. Tax people always have a hard time getting the opportunity to make that leap, particularly at the lower levels of experience. Like most things, having connections helps. Also being able to market yourself helps. These days, it may be easier to transfer internally to an accounting/auditing position first.

Why would a mid to large size company trust a tax senior to be their accounting manager...? You'd need to go somewhere small or have strong connections. Tax doesn't know enough of the full picture financials to really be in a general accounting role, much less a manager one.
Would it help if I had 2 years experience in midsize Corp as senior accountant? Or is that still difficult?

I’ve had friends leave as senior 2’s for manager jobs in the Bay Area. Tho I’ve seen a lot more senior job listings that want 5-8 years of experience lol
