Has anyone left law for a public admin job? I’m wanting to move to public service but not as a litigator and I’ve already tried working in the nonprofit sector. I’m considering getting an MPA. Any insight or considerations from folks who’ve done this have would be helpful. Thanks!

I don’t have any help to offer (sorry) but I have considered making a similar move so I am also curious to hear thoughts from anyone who has done it. Additionally, wanted to know why the nonprofit sector didn’t work for you? I’ve considered making that move as well. Thanks!

I'm also planning to do this!

The NP sector often can be more of working on people’s pet projects than actually helping folks.

Happy to elaborate on my experience by DM.

Ugh. Gross on all fronts. Thanks for elaborating!!!

At my current firm, been seeing a lot of people get extended until eternity on the same project / clients. One of the big draws of consulting was the variety, which I am not getting here. Just signed with an MBB. Will I finally get project variety or will I continue to work at one client for up to a year?

Do you disclose when you were promoted on your CV? I’ve been as a assistant manager for over a year but have just been ‘promoted’ to manager. Have been doing the same role for the entire time… only thing that changed was my official role title. Do I need to split this out into two roles on my CV?

Would ideally like to keep as one optically to avoid having to ‘spend more time in the manger role’… as I’ve been doing that role for a year now and keen to move on!

Thanks in advance and Merry Xmas!

What are some hard skills you’ve learned that have helped propel your career and earning potential?

Fresh out of school all I knew was print and static digital design. Over the years I had self taught myself UI/UX, video editing, and 2D motion design. Having these skills in my toolkit has allowed me to move ahead and more than double my salary in 3 short years.

I’ve been stagnating for a while now, but I’ve been eyeing learning Cinema 4D and getting into AR design as my next skill set.

Out of curiosity. How would a company view a potential candidate who has a period of unemployment to study for the CPA. I am considering to start studying for the exam but I know I would need to leave my employer in order to give 110%. I am contemplating the idea of at least passing one part while employed. Then leaving my employer to study FAR. I am considering to leave my current employer anyways, so it’s more of how my future employer would view that lapse.

Additional Posts in Law Exit Opportunities

Anyone leave law out of restlessness? I did law as my second career and have now had four FT law jobs in 12 yrs, each an improvement /better fit than the last. But after less than a year at my latest job (which I worked my ass off to get - including taking the CA bar while working FT) I'm thinking what's next and tired of lawyering. The job is great, I'm just not interested in advancing to partner. I think I just get bored very easily.
