Yes. They hire for a skill set not just industry experience

Me!

Not me personally but I have seen it a lot yes.

Big Tech has many of the same s&o challenges you see across many industries. I’d say our problem solving often leverages tech more than most- for Microsoft this entails plenty of power apps, dashboards, and crm driven analytics.

My humble perspective: cultural fit, the type of work you do, and your affinity towards tech solutions all matter more than tech industry experience

On #2, I have far too many consultants want to join tech essentially because“it pays better”, “I’m tired of working hard”, or “I’m obsessed with prestige”.

I get multiple requests for informational interviews every week- some are great, others its the above. Better questions are “why Microsoft vs. google vs. Amazon”...better yet tell me your informed answer :)

AMA! Target west coast undergrad, strong internships and GPA. Was choosing between BB IB, MBB and a LMM PE fund at graduation. Ended up going with the PE fund due to the great culture and promotion path to VP in 3.5 years. Now 1.5 years in and don't regret my decision whatsoever. Happy to answer questions for recent college grads / people in industry / seniors.

What is the most useful technical or soft skills for any mechanical engineer to have where you work? I’m curious to know what really matters for everyone and what makes a big impact on the team and business.

Thoughts on CAIA? Difficulty, hours studied, study tips, overall experiences, etc.? I’ll be sitting for Level 1 in September. I’m almost one year out of undergrad (econ background) so a lot of the CAIA content is new to me

anything I can get. Contract or FT is fine.

Why is day trading so dangerous? Some stocks seem so predictable, with small movements up and down for weeks at a time. Sometimes I question why I don’t just get in and out of a stock like Toyota all day long. I know there’s a reason, I’m just not totally clear in what it is.

I work as a Business Development Manager at a sports club.. I’ve been given a couple of months “trial” in the 6 figure and above sales in which I don’t see going back to my other role on lower sales. This was a somewhat good move for me until I consider missing out on commission each month that was more than my salary. (£25k salary, over £2k per month commission)
How do I go about raising this concern? I believe I should be paid more now and at least change my job title?

Completed Google on-site around 2 weeks ago. Yesterday the recruiter reached out to me saying she has ‘updates’ and wanted to connect today. I sent her some slots to connect and she did not reply. When I reached out today, she said she is overwhelmed with work and wants to connect after the long weekend. I have no option but to wait for 4 days now.
What do you guys think the reason for this delay could be? Is recruiter purposely buying time? Or she could truly be overwhelmed? Thoughts?
