I actually do know someone who went from tax to the IA service line (not exactly IT audit but close enough). They work as an internal auditor now. Personally, I would say stick with tax or switch to something else. IT audit sucks so badly. I was in the IA group and I've helped with a couple IT audit projects. Everyone in IA and IT audit hates their job and on top of that, exit ops are terrible. By some miracle I didn't have to settle for an IA/compliance role when I left, but most of my ex-coworkers did. Just no valued/transferable skills at all... IT audit = professional screenshotter

for the love of god do not go into IT audit. There are 0 exit opps

Technically there is 1: more IT audit

Don't try it

Okay then

I don’t think anyone would ever be dumb enough to leave tax for IT audit. I’ve never seen this, or even thought of such an idea in my 7 years in public.

As someone in IT audit, these comments hurt a little, lol. I generally don’t mind my job. That being said, a friend of mine transferred from tax and then quit a year later. If you want to join ITA because you think you’ll get to do coding or hands-on techy type work then you’ll be disappointed. Audit Senior 1 described it well. But if you are interested in controls or compliance of any kind, enjoy working with a variety of people (primarily disgruntled middle aged men), and don’t want a horrible busy season, it could be the right job for you! PM me if you have more questions.

Depends on you! What kind of tax are you doing vs. what kind of work in IT audit. If it is a proper salary, challenging work, and exit opportunities that you care about, I echo the comment on "do not try it".

IT Audit is a complete dead end. Unless you really like it, don't go into it. Everyone I've ever met or heard of hates it.

What is IT audit?

They audit financial systems like SAP. For example, they check that the system clients pull reports from have appropriate protections in place to ensure only the appropriate users have access to the database, confirm that the entities password policies are in place, and that the data flow between two systems does not get altered or changed

Unfortunately at EY many of the things that IT Auditors would find interesting and be able to transfer their skills to (controls/compliance consulting, GRC, pre/post assessments) are projects for Tech Consulting. Tech Risk is simply IT Audit.

How do you get over a failed effort? I did learn a lot from this project and know I would do better next time. Despite that, I am still depressed and anxious over this.
