Has anyone not practiced “ casing “ and was able to still do well in an interview? I feel after a certain time spent in the industry you naturally start to understand the goals / potential pros cons of business’s.

You will get crushed without prep

Depends on the company - FAANG bizops or T2/MBB you’ll get lit up

I’ve never prepped for a case interview in my life and crushed it both times.

I didn’t get to actually practice casing out loud with anyone. I watched some videos on YouTube of case interviews and read some casebooks. I made sure I knew about frameworks and how to adapt as needed. Let me also mention that I come from a science field as well so this was my very first exposure to casing. After my case interview, I asked my interviewer for feedback and he said I could have done better with time (I didn’t get to finish and had to summarise real quick), but that he thought I did really well with communicating my framework and was really vocal throughout the whole case, calculations included. I start at a Big 4 firm in 2 weeks ☺️ So I guess if you can’t get anyone to practice with, just know the basics, how to structure your thoughts in a manner the interviewer can follow. And think aloud. In the end, I believe they just want to know that you can approach a case in a meaningful way that makes sense.

15 years ago I would have gotten totally smoked on any case outside my very narrow strike zone. I now occasionally do new firm ones as ‘calibration’, and find them easy if I’m at least conversant in the area. It’s like anything else; practice makes you better.

Doubtful. The format is very specific for the interviews that you would really need to at least research a little bit

Yes

I will say if you’re actually really knowledgeable about the sector then you can get away with it. I had a case that lined up perfectly with a project I had just wrapped in a sector I’m really interested in and I completely crushed it. But that was only one case out of like 10+

For me, I would have embarrassed myself without any prep. However, the extent of my prep was research, management consulted, YouTube, and Victor Chang..i never practiced out loud with others

It depends on the caliber of the person interviewing you.

I think you have to at practice 1-2 times just to get used to the flow.

Have anyone done contracting negotiations before? I've interviewed for co A & B and co A extended an offer today. The offer does not meet my current salary. Co B's interview structure is 3 rounds and I've finished my 2nd round today. The recruiter mentioned that since I am a contractor my current salary is incomparable as they will provide benefits, etc. Is this true? I have 2 yrs of contracting HR exp from fortunate 500 co’s & OMW to get my SHRM-CP. Appreciate your advice in advance.

Well 2 hours later as I turn on the shower, I wonder why it's not getting hot. Then I remembered the basement. Obviously it overflowed and I had .25 inches of water on the floor (concrete) Cont
