Definitely tough while traveling. The way I did it was to research the CrossFit gyms in that area and contact them ahead of time to let them know I’d be dropping in (but not participating in a class). It also costs a pretty penny ($20 per drop in) but CF gyms will have all the lifting equipment you need.
StrongLifts is awesome. Best thing about it is the simple set of exercises. Easy to learn and easy to get right if you start right. Helps focus on what matters... big muscle groups. Excellent for building a solid foundation. Recommend adding some good cardio before.
Make sure you leave plenty of time for workouts - warmups and proper rest between sets are both super important as you go up in weight and that time adds up. Also form... you have to use the low weight startup weeks to get that form right.
You’ll need to find a gym that will have the proper increments... that’s the tough thing about being on the road but you really only need a halfway decent lifting gym. This isn’t that hard but you’re not going to find it in the hotel... weather is getting better so use it as the time to get that cardio in.
Last thing - don’t focus on “getting swoll”. This is about getting strong. 6-12 weeks in you will see a difference in strength. Mass will come with diet and body type. It’s a great journey... enjoy it!
I started StrongLifts 5x5 in Sept 2019. It is difficult to do it while traveling unless you have a CrossFit gym and they do charge a daily rate. After few months, you can move to an intermediary program. I can feel the difference and now want to put in some muscle mass
I live stronglifts! Easy to do at home, but very hard when on the road
Yes, I try to substitute with dumbbells on the road. Usually doing a split rather than full body workout.
