Late night lawyers: how's your night going?

4th yeah here. Most likely moving to a different state in 2 years for my husband's fellowship. Recently made it into the L&E area. I will find out at the end of 2023 where exactly we will be moving. To those who practice bankruptcy: think I can get my Federal law loans forgiven in a Chapter 7 if I haven’t been able to get law jobs after graduating almost half a decade ago and objectively give up on the law to go back to retail? Client confidentiality question:
I do UHNW luxury good transactions. About a year ago we represented buyer and seller on a deal. Deal fell apart because the buyer was shady and actively trying to engage in illegal acts. Buyer reached out asking us to represent them in a new purchase attempt, we declined.

They found new counsel and made an offer on the same asset. The owner doesn’t wish to engage with them. Can I give the owners reasons to the new counsel without violating duty to my old client

Does anybody feel pretty demoralized with their salary and amount of work they do? (I mean, I know the general consensus is yes for our field.) I don’t want to write a long emotional rant but I’m a year in, I make 100K, have 200K debt and with LA inflation, I feel like I can barely afford food. (Ramen is $20 now??) Help me understand: I applied and firm asked me for a meeting with a partner. Met with partner and it went well. At end of interview, partner told me that the firm has already brought on junior associates and cannot take on any more until around Q1 maybe (which I already knew and was fine with) but this means the firm cannot commit to continuing the interview process yet and I should keep in touch and f-u in a few months.

My Q: why start the process with first meet and then pause?

I can't stand when people don't understand that if you don't do things the right way and I have to redo them it's an issue.

For anyone who has ever had a job in law that they were absolutely miserable at, how did you stick it out and how long did you stick it out? I’m only a month in and feel like I can’t leave for resume purposes

This is probably a dumb question but bear with me, when doing a conflicts check is it for all the matters you’ve worked on at your current firm or all the matters in your entire career?

I am looking to leave my very small law firm firm and considering going to a much larger firm. I have some clients that were brought in by other partners but I am deeply entrenched in their work. It would not be easy for another lawyer to get up to speed, but the client contact is technically with another lawyer and I am working with that lawyer also on the file. I also have one client where we could really use some more bodies on the file. More in comments.
