Got an interview with Amazon within their Advertising department. I hear working for Amazon can be great if you get into the right department. Anyone have insights to their advertising department? Good or bad? Also, would love some interview tips if you have them! (It’s for an Executive Assistant position) thank you!

Having done the opposite (advertising to consulting via an MBA), I can tell you there are probably very few agencies, if any, that will value an MBA. Those that do will prefer to hire MBAs for Account, Strategy, Project Management, or back-office Finance roles. To pivot to a creative role (assuming Art or Copy), you would probably need to go to a portfolio school to build up a body of work that you can shop around to different agencies during interviews.
Personally, I felt the problems we were helping clients solve were incredibly limited in scope, and I had reached a point where I didn’t really believe I was learning anything new or working on anything different than the projects I had completed previously. I also found that the holding company model messed with the organizational dynamics of individual agencies in such a way that made it extremely difficult to collaborate effectively across the agency network (and to a lesser extent across departments in the same agency). Lastly, I found that the talent pipeline into the agency world wasn’t particularly strong, and even though I worked with some of the smartest and most creative people I’ve ever met, most of my colleagues were frankly lazy and uninterested in anything other than collecting a paycheck. That being said, I know others have had fantastic experiences at different agencies so would definitely encourage you to explore since there are so many types of agencies doing very different work and that have very different cultures.
