Has anyone pivoted from Consulting to a creative role without a specific experience in the field? Mostly thinking Ad Agencies.. Would an MBA make that pivot possible?

Having done the opposite (advertising to consulting via an MBA), I can tell you there are probably very few agencies, if any, that will value an MBA. Those that do will prefer to hire MBAs for Account, Strategy, Project Management, or back-office Finance roles. To pivot to a creative role (assuming Art or Copy), you would probably need to go to a portfolio school to build up a body of work that you can shop around to different agencies during interviews.

Personally, I felt the problems we were helping clients solve were incredibly limited in scope, and I had reached a point where I didn’t really believe I was learning anything new or working on anything different than the projects I had completed previously. I also found that the holding company model messed with the organizational dynamics of individual agencies in such a way that made it extremely difficult to collaborate effectively across the agency network (and to a lesser extent across departments in the same agency). Lastly, I found that the talent pipeline into the agency world wasn’t particularly strong, and even though I worked with some of the smartest and most creative people I’ve ever met, most of my colleagues were frankly lazy and uninterested in anything other than collecting a paycheck. That being said, I know others have had fantastic experiences at different agencies so would definitely encourage you to explore since there are so many types of agencies doing very different work and that have very different cultures.

I am in MCOL city, MBA. I would really appreciate guidance on comps at other places in their DDV practices. Mostly just interested in base comp. It’s fine if I don’t get a pay raise, not eager on a pay cut though. I have 2 years DDV experience and I am very good at casing. Tysm 💜

At Deloitte now. laid off last year while on medical leave. Landed a new job with the help of a senior mentor and vouched for me not knowing my medical limitations. I just had to take sick leave again on the first project out of the gate. Dr is recommending 40 hours a week which will not fit the requirements of my director role. I feel like I need to switch roles to a non client facing role to be realistic in my health limitations. How do I make the switch and have the convo with w my mentor?

We live in the Metro Detroit area and our 6 month old has eczema. I fly to client locations and my wife works from home. So we are looking for the best place (climate) to relocate to so we can help our baby beat his condition before it gets worse. Not too dry, not too humid. I need to be close to a well connected airport. Plus a progressive place would be better for us as we are first gen immigrants. Would like to stay in EST, with CST being the second preference. 2nd year associate here. Has anyone made a jump from a boutique firm to big law? I found out that I’m a front runner for a gig with an Amlaw 100. I never thought I’d have this chance having graduated from an unranked law school and still being so junior. Even though the firm asked if I’d be willing to start as a 1st year given my lack of litigation experience, it’s still a monumental upgrade/ jump. I’m nervous about the culture shock and whether I’ll cut it. Could really use some advice!
