Has anyone pivoted from data science to SWE? If so how and what advice would you give? Also what should one focus on to make this transition?

I was thinking about asking just the opposite. It seems the data scientists I know make a little more than I do. It depends on what "floats your boat," so to speak. If you like statistics and are more into analytical thinking, data science is more appealing. If you are into programming and problem-solving, welcome to the wonderful world of software engineering. As in any career change, the key is to take the necessary courses to fill in the gaps for the new position. You know you the best, so do some self-examination and determine if you like where you are or really want to make a change.

I’ve been supply chain consulting for 6 years. Is there a logical pivot in to a tech or non tech role at a FAANG that is worth the career shift?

Thoughts on CAIA? Difficulty, hours studied, study tips, overall experiences, etc.? I’ll be sitting for Level 1 in September. I’m almost one year out of undergrad (econ background) so a lot of the CAIA content is new to me

Hi all! I’m an engineer working in the global health space and I’m finding it’s a small, small pool. Anyone who’s worked in nonprofit spaces - did you stay? Did you switch to consulting/government/etc or go corporate? I’ve been applying without much response, and I’m debating whether a PMP very or masters is going to be necessary.

Also what are you getting paid right now as a broker? If you live in Canada I would love to know! And if you could note your experiences and certifications that would be amazing! Very curious

Career advice please. I'm in my 20's work for a company that just went public, I'll receive a few thousand in shares for my time there. I have good pto and insurance is paid for. There is room for growth, so no real stall in my career. However I have a job offer for a contract with a crypto company for double what I make. It's a year contract and I use the company's product on my own time all the time. I am also heavily invested in the crypto space, philosophically monetarily, and time wise.

I have two offers in hand both great jobs - pay is salary + commission. One is 20k less at plan but is my previous company in which I was apart of an reorganization in 2020. I left on great terms and have a lot of connections but it will be a new territory. The 2nd and new company job has a company car still new territory but an opportunity for growth and to be apart of something new and exciting. I know this is a good problem. Just so confused.

Do you guys in IB have protected weekends? Where do you work and which group? I am at a very niche but well known middle market and I surprisingly have Friday 9pm - Saturday projected. Scared if I jump to BB / EB I will be miserable. Yes, I need the rubber stamp on my resume but at what cost? Having one day to completely unplug really helps. Just drop in your firm, group and policy. Thanks 🙏🏼
