Has anyone recently been to Puerto Rico? Have you faced any immigration checks? Did you carry any documents with you on your trip (besides your ID)? Asking because my H1b visa is not stamped and want to make sure it is safe to travel.

I just went two weeks back and had the same question as we had the same case as you, our H1B visas were not stamped. There were no documents checks which were different than Domestic checks (that means state id or passport would work). Go and have a blast!

like

No problem! Reach out

Not sure about your stamp but I went to USVI and they asked to see my passport and visa and was questioned about my job etc. this was on the way back and not going out which I only used my drivers license

OP: when are you traveling? I am going there after couple weeks and can let you know if you are traveling in September!

Sep long weekend. That would be awesome. Thanks you!

Puerto Rico is part of the US

I understand how scary it must feel. Google searches also actually bring up a whole world of information telling you that anyone (citizen/green card holder/visa holder) can travel to PR and back with just your DL or state ID. If you have traveled, please share legit information than just a Google search. Whoever here is saying it’s safe, have themselves traveled.

I was there during the July break and had the exact doubts in my mind but I still went there since it is a USA territory covered under their customs regulations. Hence, you do not need a visa to enter/exit PR. Visa is something you only need when you exit USA mainland/territory. You can travel only using yours drivers license or state ID card. However, due to the proximity of PR to other countries, it is advised to carry your I797 which shows your I94 expiry date. This is solely to let anyone who may ask you if you have legal status within USA or not. These are not immigration officials. I carried them as well. As for USVI, it is a USA territory however with different customs regulations, I have never been, but even US citizens are expected to carry their passport cause they clear customs on their way back so it may be more prudent to have a valid visa to travel there and not just documents. IMHO only.
PR however, you can travel with just your drivers license!!

Been there multiple times.. they don’t check any immigration document.. carry your DL and you should be good..

If you travelling to USVI, you need to carry your passport, visa /797 as they do immigration check.. reason is they USVI is very close to British VI and anyone can come to the island

Here's a quick tip
💡 Use Google’s XYZ formula: "Accomplished [X] as measured by [Y], by doing [Z]."

💡 Example: Instead of saying "worked with team members on project", say "Collaborated with 5+ analysts on go-to-market strategy by researching 20+ cities across the United States, resulting in an ARR of $1M."

💡 Last but not least, keep it concise. One or two pages max
