Looking for career advice!
Im a new starter in FDD as a Senior, qualified and am sitting for CFA L2. I want to make sure I'm doing everything right to maximise my chances of landing a FO role in a PE/Fund or ER/M&A role at an BB/EB.
A few I've heard so far:
- Get infra deals exp
- Network aggressively
- Leave within 1 yr
JPMorgan Chase Morgan Stanley Goldman Sachs Citi Bank of America Barclays Credit Suisse RBC KKR Blackstone TPG Apollo Global Management, LLC Bain Capital Warburg Pincus

I’m making 200k tc and still getting an mba. I think of it as a long term investment in myself.
2 years off, a great network, a better education and new friends😅
Coach
Echoing others - I’ve been making over $200k the last couple of years but still getting an mba this fall. You may not need an mba to get to $200k+, especially in tech, but it’s an investment in yourself and your network.
I think doing an m7/t10 mba is a no-brainer unless you have severe financial constraints or dependents.
Just graduated from an M7. Was making 100k/yr before and will be making over $200k/yr total comp after.
Granted Google might not hires tons like amazon, but they do. It’s a little aspirational to assume that you can pivot from random background to PM at Google via and MBA, but folks with relevant, non-PM experience get hired all the time.
I doubt many PMs go get MBAs to get hired back as PMs though. 😂
NPS of MBA is stupidly high. That said there are people who can’t go do a full time MBA. TLDR is if you can do it, then do it. (And if you react strongly to that last sentence then don’t do it :p)
I would only worry if you need to support a family or have debt you need to pay down.
If you are specifically targeting investment banking or management consulting then you are fine. If you are not sure where you want to go then your salary may not end up making it worthwhile.
I don’t think this is true…for example post-salary for tech with a MBA still makes total comp above 150k+, at least
Know a ppl who went to T15s and absolutely regretted it, didn't like the experience at all. Even the ones who got good jobs felt the school didn't do enough and it was all on them to pull it out. Part of it depends on the program and your expectations going in.
Coach
I mean, isn’t it always on you to regardless of school? Most of the T10/15 are target schools in consulting, finance, and tech, and provide the platform to interview at these firms.
If you went to Ross or Darden and are upset that citadel, Carlyle, or a16z isn’t recruiting there, that’s on you!
I’m in a similar situation making 150k but looking at a t10 mba. How are you all paying? I’m thinking mix of loans and cash
Same for me. Use Juno for loans if you have a good credit score.
Coach
Why everyone snubbing the T15? What’s really the major difference between Ross, fuqua, tuck, Yale, Stern, Darden, Haas?
Coach
Probably marginal, if any, in terms of overall opportunities.
Haas might have a significant advantage over the others in tech due to Cal’s network/location, and Tuck’s network/reputation is possibly stronger than the others? That #10 spot however has got to be contentious between the rest!
