Not since I lateraled in 1859… #linkedin
Girl what
Honestly a weird thing to do. And unnecessary. Just update your LinkedIn once you start the new job.
Just update the LinkedIn bro
Can you just tell them something along the lines of you’re not familiar with sending those in your jurisdiction so you don’t think you need any but if they have recommendations on sending them you’ll make a list? My firm received a few announcement cards over the years and I’ve found them very odd but I have heard of them.
Rising Star
What's your practice area?
Who would these be sent to?
Your former clients.
So for context, I’m lateraling to a small boutique firm that told me they’re already ordering announcement cards for me and asked how many I’d want/need. I’m in that awkward spot where I don’t want to be rude and say none, but I also have no idea whatsoever who I would even send them to lol.
How many is less important than who. Who are your targets? Start your list of names and addresses and count them.
I’m a junior associate and it’s my first lateral move, so I don’t have my own clients yet. I’m also moving to a new state, and I don’t have a ton of contacts in that market yet, either. Given that, I’m wondering how I would even use these, to be honest.
I do remember seeing these long ago. At a small firm they might be sent to the firm’s holiday card list (or something similar) so the firm’s clients, and other parties they do business with, know who is joining the firm. At a larger firm it was more geared toward higher level attorneys who were joining the firm. The tradition must still linger in some areas.
Yes send them via pony express
Make a list of every client and attorney you can think of, with or against whom you’ve worked. They may need an attorney licensed in your new state, down the road.
