I’ve heard that it’s burning a bridge but then again why wouldn’t you take what you want? Companies hire and fire at will so do what’s best for you.

I have rescinded an offer before. While I understand I burnt a bridge, the other firm was never my end goal. I had to do what was best for me. Also, business is business, they will find someone to replace you easily.

I did. I accepted an offer from PwC because I didn't have anything else at the time, but a couple of weeks later I got a much larger offer from Accenture. All you should do is take your better offer to the first company and ask them to match it. If they won't, then don't look at it as burning a bridge. They're the ones who aren't willing to pay you what the market says you're worth, so they're the ones burning the bridge. Don't feel bad about it at all.

Thank you! This is exactly what I’m going to do.

Personally no, but know a few people who have so it can be done just very much burns that bridge

See if you can get an extension.

+1 on asking for an extension. Recruiting deadlines are sometimes pretty flexible

You say you “learned about the project.” But it sounds like you’re coming out of undergrad. Please recognize that a project is not guaranteed, and will be temporary.

I used to be passionate about my firm’s people. Loved coaching junior folks and paying it forward with all the great mentoring I received early in my career. But my firm’s values and senior leadership priorities have incentivized a purely numbers vs people culture. It’s made the job so much less fun and personally fulfilling.
