I sponsor two children through Children International and love it - we write letters and donations over a certain amount get reports (COVID logistics allowing). However a good metric of any charity is Charity Navigator! Just look up the org you are interested in to see how they do.

I do it through child fund, only 33 a month and we do letters as well!

Is there a standard rule in terms of how much you save vs. Spend out of your take home income? For long term financial health. About to become a father and thinking of renting a larger place, rent will increase by $500, other expenses will increase by $500 and ultimately I will save 60% of take home. Worried a little and wondering if it's still a good saving percentage.

Unfortunately in this situation due to location of spouse’s job -it’s fairly rural and that area doesn’t have the same level of education (kid is about to start K), diversity, convenience, jobs opps me, stuff to do or parks as our current city has. Switching jobs is not an option for him unfortunately. I do feel very guilty about the long commute for him though.

EY Parental leave question: how many weeks were you actually out? When I took my leave 3 years ago, I counted total of 21 weeks of leave. That’s including one firm winter holiday week. I remember I initially thought I would be back after 16 weeks, but then in the middle of my time off I got an email from Leave Team with the breakdown and it actually was 21 weeks. Can someone who took leave recently tell me the actual number of weeks?

Question for EY moms - my husband and I are thinking about starting a family soon, so I was looking up the parental leave policy to see what my options are. I know some firms have clawback clauses that require you to come back to work for a specific period of time or else you have to pay back the salary you received while on leave, but I couldn’t find anything similar in the EY policy. Does this mean EY doesn’t have a clawback clause for parental leave, or is it just hidden away somewhere? TIA!

I’m genuinely curious what resources you have used to make your decision. For instance, my friend says there is an NYU study that shows it has effects on fertility, and I have no clue what she’s saying because I can’t find this study anywhere.

I so hate doing that to someone, do I follow up with a short - “Sorry X I realized I misspelled your name in the prior email, have a nice weekend” or do I just let it be? One letter off, this is what I get for responding on my phone, dang autocorrect.
