Marsh & McLennan I am moving 2 hours from my office. My manager says i have to come 2 days to office. When i come to the office its only me and couple of other people. No one seems to care about coming to office. When i asked manager if i can work remote i was told that its for my career development. Can you guys tell in Canada which companies are offering remote opportunities?

Hi All!
I am currently a Senior Software Engineer(Backend) with 4 YOE. My current CTC is 21LPA (All Fixed) with additional Yearly bonus. I got a call from Google (Pune/Bangalore/ Remote) for Software Engineer - Backend. I have the following doubts but any insights are welcome -
1. Does the lower designation offered make any difference?
2. Kinda ambiguous, but what kind of hike or ballpark pay can I expect?
3. Any similar interviews experiences or focus areas I should prepare for?

Nothing useful here but just a show of solidarity! I’ve been wondering the same thing myself as I was laid off also
Good luck! 👍🍀
I have. I started late March and have not worked in the office or met most of the team.
You make it work. Same meetings, just over zoom not in person. Would it have been better to start in person - yes. Have we made it work - absolutely.
You have to over communicate and everything takes longer, but you make it work.
Specific questions ?
You do the informal and formal conversations. we do virtual happy hours and lunches and coffees. it takes a little longer. You have to be deliberate and make time. The casual conversations have to be scheduled.
Work with your manager to build the list of
people you need to meet and go through it. Find out who you need regular check ins with. Ask every person for the names of 2 more people to meet with.
Do the shoot the shit thing - one of my planners and I both are home cooks. We swap food pics and recipes over IM.
Communication is key. Stay in touch with your teams. Ask questions. Schedule one on ones. Show your face on zooms. We had a few employees who started in March. Some struggled, some thrived.
Yep. It’s a little odd but has its pros (when you’re slow your first few weeks, you don’t have to fake sitting at your desk being productive, feeling like people are looking at you, etc.) Just over communicate, set up lots of 1 on 1’s, proactively message your boss asking if you can help with anything, etc. It sucks to admit, but I definitely feel I’ve had to “over prove” myself just so they know I’m legit, but at the same time my team has been super understanding and has recognized I’m starting in a weird way. Good luck!
Don’t worry Rolfe. You’ll be ok.
