Has anyone starting trying to get pregnant after starting at a new firm or did you wait at least a year ?

I waited until about 4/5 months in at the new office. That way I was assured of having worked there for a year before the kid was born.

Great idea! I’ll try that

Double-check your maternity benefits (esp mat leave). At some companies you need to be employed for a year to qualify for coverage. I haven’t been in your position but this is something to consider.

This was the case at one of my prior jobs but not my current one, so definitely something that can vary greatly so worth checking for sure!

Started right away. It’s taken enough time at this point that by the time I create spawn I will have met the working requirement to get leave.

Very try! Actually started thinking something was wrong and got a bunch of test done. Everything is fine. It’ll happen when it needs to. I’ll be more intentional in a few months if it doesn’t Happen on it’s own.

I waited a year, but that was self-imposed. Didn’t feel right about it trying earlier, but it wouldn’t have been an issue with my group.

I had a very honest conversation with my practice group leader after I had been there about 2-3 months. He specifically said I should do what’s right for my family. I encourage you to seek out a mentor you trust and see how it would go over.

I was 5 months pregnant when I interviewed. They knew it because I told them. Wasn’t an issue. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Most firms require a year of employment to collect paid leave for childbirth and maternity leave.

Last summer I signed an offer letter before knowing I was pregnant. It still worked out. While planning for a baby is important, it’s discrimination to have an issue with you getting pregnant while at a new place of employment. So do what is right for you. Not the job.

I tell my boss up front that, for family reasons, I’ve gotten a new job and will be moving to another city two weeks after trial will likely end. He then gives my trial witnesses to another attorney, but is still going to make me do grunt work. Is he unreasonable or am I?

Alright moms. 4th kid in daycare and this one just won’t nap. We send a portable white noise machine and she has a lovey. But she apparently has serious FOMO. I’ve asked them to move her to the furthest corner. Then moved her to the younger baby room. But I’m out of ideas. 11 months old (10 mo adjusted). I had chalked it up to just starting at daycare but we are almost 2 months in. She’s a hot mess in the evenings. What magic do you have for me. All of my others fell in a routine by now!

I’m terrified of pregnancy but not of motherhood (except for the noise, kids are so loud). Pregnancy/breastfeeding looks horrible to me, but I’d feel bad about missing out on kids because I was scared of something that wasn’t so bad. It doesn’t help that I don’t know a single pregnant person—in my 30s and none of my friends have children! Any moms out there who can speak about what it’s actually like?

What is the maternity policy in Big4? In EY we need to work for at least an year and we get 16 weeks paid parental leave+ 2 weeks short term disability leave.

Real talk 2: if you decide to have children, it’s entirely possible you will not like the child at first (or at various points). It’s a huge decision, and having complex feelings about the matter is completely valid

Wife and kid are going to be out of town for the next 2 weeks. Instead of wasting time, I’d like to do something productive. What would you do if you have say 3+ hours a day. Maybe self help, wealth creation type books, work out daily, take care of some things around the house.

See a lot of comp posts from consultants - have any of you considered enterprise technology sales? Certainly a different job that requires different knowledge/skills but I see parallels/ think a consultant could do well in sales if they’re okay with a lot of rejection. The pay seems similar (my OTE is about 400k; 8 YoE, individual contributor) but I imagine the hours are better and it can be fun if you like solving customer problems, to challenge customers, and building relationships
