Has anyone stayed in Federal consulting outside of the DC area? Fully remote? Just Curious if it is possible.

It wasn’t really pre-COVID without a sweetheart legacy deal or on-site work somewhere like Tampa or Atlanta. That could change.

Some firms do fully remote - look for boutique firms. I do federal in Atlanta (not remotely, non pandemically)

Definitely possible. I had that opportunity while living in NYC for several years before exiting to a new firm. It depends on your client’s willingness to allow you to provide remote support and your direct management/admin chain’s support if remote support is not the norm for that particular client. I have seen more remote opportunities, especially if you have technical skills. I don’t think remote work is going away, you probably have the best chance now to find a remote role.

I started off my career doing federal consulting (well, federal staff aug to be honest) in SC. Lots of federal agencies have significant presences outside of the Beltway that allows for full contracting careers outside of DC. Can't speak to the fully remote part, as that will depend 100% on the client, but they are scattered through the rest of the country.

There are federal buildings and clients nationwide. But people at Deloitte who’ve built networks in DC on federal accounts have been able to continue supporting those accounts remotely for years after moving elsewhere. It’s very rare for us to start staffing a new non-DC person for a DC-based client during non-COVID times (they need to be a very specialized SME).

Dependent on firm and client. But yes it is possible.

Yes, fully remote in Denver working with the feds

As others have said, it really depends what you do and who the client is. I’m based in DC and work for a DC-based client, but we have plenty of folks (both Feds and Booz) who are fully remote and were remote pre-COVID.

Yes. I’ve worked with fully remote resources all over the country and am making the move myself in a couple months 🙂

We are actively hiring outside the DC metro area.

Focus is in lower COI cities where we can build a cohort so they aren't alone. Kansas City, OK City, Jacksonville.

Yes fairly common at Deloitte but not ideal

Has anyone joined a team that is all full time remote, with people in different countries and time zones? How has the onboarding process been? Have you been able to form a connection with your team? Considering some opportunities but very skeptical of how this would all go down and if it would be super lonely and depressing. Saw an article recently how companies are investing in surveillance tools to evaluate the "productivity" of their employees since many transitioned to remote work. There are trackers out there that would screenshot your current desktop view at intervals, how long you've been typing/clicking, etc... it feels incredibly invasive. I think this needs to be listed very clearly in the employee handbook. Has your company been transparent with you about how they are tracking you?

Looking for honest opinions: why does everyone seem to hate Deloitte? I’m an experienced hire who joined Deloitte this year. Things have felt pretty normal so far, but I want to be sure my eyes are open. I’ve been told to buckle up once covid/WFH is over the culture will revert back to the way it was. I don’t scare easily and information is power. Thanks in advance!
