Have you been assessed for adhd? YMMV, but this is sometimes the first question in a series of questions that leads to an eventual diagnosis.
But to answer, I’ve had to become more mindful of my moods and triggers. When focus strikes, forget everything else I need to wring every drop of efficiency out of it that I can. Conversely I’m mindful of what triggers me to goof off- which actually helps a lot. I do precisely zero work on my cell phone or personal laptop (and my rule is no non-professional work browsing on my work laptop)so if I reach for either it’s a red flag that I’m about to waste time. That helps me be productive at my desk. And if I’m not going to be productive, I may as well go goof off and do what I really want and just keep my work phone nearby in case it’s something urgent. Why half-ass it, ya know?
I was 100% going to say if you procrastinate to where it affects work, consider talking to a professional bc it could be adhd or anxiety; my flip answer is “a diagnosis and script for adderall :)” Truth is, though, even with meds, procrastination is just a battle we must fight. Try calendar blocking (schedule blocks of time in advance for a project, in small chunks over time) or breaking large tasks into smaller ones and “requiring” yourself to do the little bits every day in order to do something you want. Can also try temptation bundling—like you listen to your fave soundtrack when doing the unwanted task—and accountability partnering (telling a buddy what/when you plan to do the thing and ask them to check in afterwards.
Getting started with small tasks has always helped me (which lead to bigger and bigger tasks)
When I have to do boring stuff that will take a long time, I put an action movie (that isn’t going to require close attention) on my iPad next to my monitor. Probably takes me a bit longer to get the thing done but I can sit there and work for hours while halfway listening / watching a movie.

When I need to do work that I really don’t want to do (which is usually the real reason for my procrastination), I break the work up into parts and then reward myself immediately after each part is completed. The reward can be something as simple as giving myself 20 minutes to read or watch something I find really interesting or spending that time outdoors. I find that looking forward to the reward helps me focus and get through each part of the work. This works really well for work that takes a longer time to complete (like drafting or reviewing a definitive agreement).
Going to the office is unfortunately the only thing that helps me / working from home is a complete nightmare for me procrastination-wise.
I agree.
Badass playlist.

Gonna keep this PG and all. But if you’re WFH, you can make that deal with yourself that you’re gonna do… you know what… but then when you’re done you have to start that work task you don’t want to do.

This one does not always work for me but sometimes it does: I let the timer run the moment I wake up and have two timers on which “good” (eating, working out) and “bad” (doomscrolling etc) go. The visualisation helps me - need to not do it when it gets too depressing.

LF1: Exactly
For big drafts that I know I will hate turning I schedule with a partner to review at a close enough interval that I’d have to finish it or “blow the deadline”. To be clear, I put the time on our calendars after I’ve looked at it and assessed how long it should probably take. Then I do invent a deadline and commit to it. It’s slightly ridiculous but works 🤷🏼♀️
