Has anyone submitted grad school applications while working in tech sales? Or have any managers here managed employees who’ve gone through this process? I know in roles like finance and consulting, grad or business school is part of the next step in employees’ careers so employers are supportive. I’m not sure it’s the same for tech roles. Honest opinion—will my desire to go to grad school disincentivize my employer to invest in me?

YMMV but this is my view Sales people typically go to elite mba programs to leave sales. A sales rep does not (usually) need an elite mba to advance their career in sales. Given the context, if I were to bring up getting an MBA to my sales manager, I would definitely do so with some type of narrative to explain "why". You will need to share a "why" in the context of your career at your company or getting an MBA may alarm your manager as someone looking to jump ship and go do management consulting / PM / non-sales. Source: have friends who went to t15 mba programs from sales at oracle to leave sales and go do other prestigious jobs outside of enterprise tech sales. I'm currently pushing for a manager role to get a year of experience to boost my application as I know I want an elite mba in the next 3-5 years to leave sales and do other types of work (I'm really analytical and introverted. I crush it in sales but I definitely enjoy doing other types of work more.). I do not plan on sharing my desire for MBA until I'm in management-- it would seriously alarm my current sales manager if I told them I was looking to go to a t10 program for mba. Again. YMMV but this is what I've heard from those that have been through the process and how I'm viewing things from my situation.

Thanks homie. You too. Regardless of your intention to leave or stay in sales post-MBA, I think it's great that you are given how few sales folks go that route. Best of luck + hope your manager is 1000% supportive if you decide to talk to them about it.

I did it. Score high on the GMAT (assume you meant MBA).

Good luck. Proper time management is the key.

I got my MBA while working as a manager at a start up. My boss was supportive of the process. In turn, I just wrote a recommendation letter for one of my reps and fully encourage folks to pursue further education.

That’s great to hear your boss was supportive and amazing to hear that you’re supportive of your reps too! Thanks for replying.

Questions for WOC who are in a creative role: 1. What’s the longest stint you’ve had at an agency? 2. How long have you been in the industry? Speaking to a good friend tonight and we have a theory about how the trauma experienced by black women in predominantly white creative departments drives them from jobs at a higher rate. Any truth to that?

I have been 😂😂😂 all morning all by myself. So, I started taking out my sew in cause this summer heat is killing me. I was about to take down the closure when I suddenly remembered that I had to be on a video call for work. So, I just brushed the closure and positioned myself in front of the camera as if I still have the full hair do. Front view is 💯. Back view is 🙈😂😂😂. When have you all had to improvise while WFH?
