Has anyone successfully given two weeks notice and still been paid a year-end bonus? Curious if the firm will pay my bonus after I give notice.

Don’t do it. Wait till the cash hits your bank account. There was a long FB thread in this the other day and the advice there mirrored mine here. Not worth any risk.

They won't. I gave notice and my last day was two weeks before my bonus payout. I was still invited to the Christmas party that year, but they seemed to be pleased not to have to pay out what would have been a $3-5k bonus. And I had been there seven years. I saw it as the cost of getting out when I wanted.

like

Ouch. I like your perspective on it though.

It did happen to me once - left on very good terms and received the bonus on my my last day there (even though it was promised over a month before)

like

Same, but I would never bank on this. Plus, the bonuses there were always very small.

like

I’ve had to quit around bonus time before. I put in notice the day I received my bonus. Just wait.

like

Yeah you’d want to be pretty confident you leaving is being received almost as a graduation- definitely not the norm

like

Then you got to bite the bullet- maybe they do right by you (but likely only if they think they can get business from you). Cost of moving up unfortunately

like

Only if you ask the new firm to potentially match what arguably might’ve been a bonus you lose out on. Otherwise, just wait.

like

If you need/want the bonus, wait. If you don’t care, leave when you want but know it’s unlikely they’ll pay it.

like

I gave notice to my firm and left to go in house after the end of the billing year but about a month before the bonus was paid. Even though I left a month before the bonus was paid out, they still paid me a bonus and I was very grateful. But, if I had gone to a new firm I’m sure they wouldn’t have paid.

I was told I can only get a raise if I take on more responsibilities. This can’t be normal???? What practice areas can i shift to with such a niche field?
