My life partner left big law as a mid-level associate and made +1.5M after a year and a few months out of big law. So probably a typical scenario of “this is where law career die” for many partners above ^ but hey- life has been better. They said that even for 2M a year they wouldn’t go back to Big Law.

No lottery. Very atypical exit but multiplying income sources and consulting. Hard concept to get since most people are risk averse and not willing to take a paycut on the base. But it works for us!

Hi. I do a lot of work in boutique big firm spinoff law firms who basically take amazingly credentialed lawyers and put them on a partnership track with a lot of responsibility and opportunity for real growth. The trade-off is money and many people don't want to make that change. but, at the end of the day, most lawyers will be more successful in this model. The mistake that many lawyers make is waiting too long to make that transition. Big law is a is an amazing space to learn but not for many to grow old.

Wife left big law. Works remotely for a late stage startup (Unicorn). 200k base and way better hours, plus an equity package we are hoping will be worth about $1m when the company goes public if the IPO goes well. She's living the dream imo and I might honestly join her before too long .

Believe it or not I left for 6 years then came back. I couldn’t live on a 200k in-house salary in NYC comfortably.

I left a secondary market office of a big law firm at year 2 and lateraled to a regional firm in the same market. Best decision ever.

I wish I would have had this bowl ten years ago 😔 I recently was diagnosed with ADHD. I have been able to manage this far with coping mechanisms but I recently got divorced, have four kids and a busy job with a lot of aspects that are new to me. confession: Today I got a little too aggressive on the pint of ice cream in the freezer that only had a few bites in it. I came to realize the only way to not catch heat was to eat it all, go to the store and replace it, take a few bites of the new one, then destroy the evidence. Wife had no idea when she opened it after dinner. My life has come to sneaking treats and I don’t know how to feel about it.

Wanted to get some opinions here. I’m an M2 in Cyber looking to eventually make a move to big tech or an SM or Dir at a big industry client. Have an offer of 190K base with 20% bonus to be a Mgr at Accenture. Reason to leave - want more technical exp before moving to Big tech and better comp. although PwC increased salary this year, it’s not in the same ball park at this point. Don’t see myself staying to make partner/MD at either firm. Welcome all suggestions on what I should do.

Lien search help. I work at a regional firm, and only one paralegal is available. This paralegal started yesterday …. I essentially have to coordinate with the lien search rep to order lien searches. I’m being given the opportunity to draft the main transaction documents, run diligence & for all intents and purposes serve as the senior associate. I generally feel as though I understand a transaction timeline & am appreciative of the opportunity/ challenge but any tips/ considerations/ things I may overlook would be appreciated.

Scenario for my tech tran folks: a collaboration agreement includes a termination clause providing that either party may terminate the agreement if the other party breaches a "material" term of the agreement + not cured w/in 30 days. If a party breaches any warranty in the agreement, is the the other party automatically entitled to terminate the agreement for breach of a material term?

This is kind of a personal post but I recently had an encounter with someone who told me I had a "typical lawyer personality" aka found me boring or difficult to talk to, I guess. This was someone totally outside of my social circle. Do you think this is true of lawyers? We do have a very different life than most people, but I'm wondering if it's something I should work on.

Do you take down call notes directly on the draft or in a standalone doc? I prefer the former since it’s way easier for me to refer and amend after, but a senior who subsequently asked for the notes seems annoyed at the format. These notes were intended for my own reference purposes only…
