Nope.
Fuck, is that why you're partner?
My life partner left big law as a mid-level associate and made +1.5M after a year and a few months out of big law. So probably a typical scenario of “this is where law career die” for many partners above ^ but hey- life has been better. They said that even for 2M a year they wouldn’t go back to Big Law.
No lottery. Very atypical exit but multiplying income sources and consulting. Hard concept to get since most people are risk averse and not willing to take a paycut on the base. But it works for us!
Hi. I do a lot of work in boutique big firm spinoff law firms who basically take amazingly credentialed lawyers and put them on a partnership track with a lot of responsibility and opportunity for real growth. The trade-off is money and many people don't want to make that change. but, at the end of the day, most lawyers will be more successful in this model. The mistake that many lawyers make is waiting too long to make that transition. Big law is a is an amazing space to learn but not for many to grow old.
Wife left big law. Works remotely for a late stage startup (Unicorn). 200k base and way better hours, plus an equity package we are hoping will be worth about $1m when the company goes public if the IPO goes well. She's living the dream imo and I might honestly join her before too long .
Never. We have your soul.
What am I gonna do with a soul anyway?
Believe it or not I left for 6 years then came back. I couldn’t live on a 200k in-house salary in NYC comfortably.
I left a secondary market office of a big law firm at year 2 and lateraled to a regional firm in the same market. Best decision ever.
