How does one get on at a family office?
How do you for sure if big 4 is not for you?
Anyone recently received a tax manager offer from EY ? I’m going through final interviews and want to see what your experience was like (negotiation process, initial offer higher/lower than expected?, did you give them a salary expectation range? How long did it take from final interview to offer etc) TIA!PwC EY KPMG Deloitte

Couldn’t be happier I made the switch
I networked at my prior firm (big4) for 6ish months, essentially cold calling partners to get staffed on work / learn more about m&a tax. Eventually got put on a few projects in a city I didn’t want to move to, even though they gave me the offer. Tried to get into the city I wanted but they weren’t looking for people outside of that region.
Eventually interviewed with EY, got the offer, and then my other firm made me an offer for the city I wanted the day I brought EY’s offer back. The whole process left a sour taste in my mouth so I left for EY.
I switched as a senior. EY has a shadow program which made the transition relatively painless. Still learning new things everyday, but couldn’t have more supportive people around me. Not going to lie, the learning curve is steep but after 4-5 months you get comfortable enough to start breathing. I have seen people join the group from other tax groups that have struggled a lot, but if you’re willing to put the work in then the transition is manageable. It’ll be harder as a manager, but you’ll likely act as a senior on your first deals.
Happy to jump on a call with anyone who wants to know more, etc.
