Has anyone switched to product based company after 8 years of working in service based companies?

Have any of you made a switch after working for a few years? When I started undergrad I wanted to work with renewable energy. Not at all disappointed to be in aerospace but I want to explore a pivot. Something like wind or wave power seems like it would be much riskier but also has more room for innovation.

Anyone have a harder time getting posted since us behind the scenes folks don’t exactly of a projected career roadmap?
