I stayed home after my second one but my contract was not renewed so I had no choice. At that time, there were not as many opportunities like today for flexible/remote work.
So I stayed home until the kiddos were in elementary school. That allowed me to take them to museums, meet new playmates who would be going to the same schools, vacation with them, travel with dad when he traveled for work to cool places (NASA), and more.
It was the best decision I made and yes I made. They still went to preschool then FT preK to learn and socialize more bc Mom still needed a break. 😉
When the kiddos went to elementary, I was asked to apply for another finance job. It was a blessing to have spent those few years with the kiddos bc we were at the position where I could do that.
Now, years later in a bigger home and higher taxes, and my kiddos playing many traveling club sportS throughout the years....it would not be feasible.

I’m thinking of doing the same. I am also thinking of finding a new job that pays more when I return. I go back and forth often.... In all reality, I don’t think I am the mom who can mentally handle being home all day with two kids, and I enjoy working and talking to adults and getting out of the house and having more energy/patience for my kids because they haven’t driven me up a wall all day. My husband also recently left the position I am currently in for a 40% pay bump and man I’d love to do the same and secure our future $$.
Thennnn I think - it’d be so great to be home with them and not worry about other caregivers and take care of the household and snuggle with the kids as much as possible. Agh!!!
Anyway, also would like to hear from others who did take a few years to be home. :)
I’m also pregnant with my second and have been thinking about this. Two parents working full time with young kids is just a lot, especially when daycares are closing every other week and kiddos are needing to stay home sick. I’m also worried about how easily I’d be able to rejoin the workforce after taking a couple years off.

I recommend that you read That's what she said, Joanne Lipman.
