Talk to HR. You absolutely should be able to take the leave you need to take care of yourself. I have helped others in my firm with this - they typically say medical leave or leave of absence and come back and nothing is known or said. Bipolar is a medical illness. My husband is bipolar and you can make it thru this. If you need any support at all, DM me. Take care of yourself.

Yes, I did and successfully transitioned back afterwards. I was upfront about the diagnosis of severe depression. It is too common now, and especially in our line of work. Please prioritize your health. If you don’t look out for yourself no one ever will. You are easily replaceable for your company. Your health is not easily replaceable and you are not easily replicable for your loved ones

There are quite a few symptoms, which differ depending on the person and the severity of the depression. Some symptoms include: feeing helpless, like you’re a burden to others, being excessively tired, being unmotivated by anything, no longer finding joy in things- even if they used to make you happy, contemplating death and how the lives of those around you would be easier and not affected by your disappearance, etc.

It would be worse for you to keep pushing and have something happen then for you to take the time you need. Also, just general life suggestion that I learned the hard way. You should be your number 1 priority. You are who takes care of yourself, you are just one of many cogs to the firm. Do what you need to do to take care of yourself.

You can take short term disability and not disclose the reason why to anybody but the national leave center. Just tell people you’re taking a medical leave and plan to be back whenever. A licensed physician has to sign the paperwork to go out and come back.

Missed promotion cycle and was black balled - do not confined in anyone. Make a plan for sabbatical and set yourself right or leave the program (doesn’t mean you won’t come back)

I have not, but would suggest talking to your HR rep first then your coach (would use guidance from HR) and follow up your HR convo with an email restating what the decisions were and bcc your personal email. Best to get their input and have a paper trail just in case

You should go talk to HR. You don’t have to disclose the reason to the broader masses and HR cannot say anything. But they can also help you get the help you want (need?)

I’ve had 2 coworkers take 1 month off for mental health. My team was very understanding but you’ll have to make that call for yourself.

They both said general mental health, but nothing more. They both had good reputations at the firm and had been there >3 yrs

Hi OP. I also have bipolar disorder. I had to take a long term disability leave for a year while I was at another firm. Some people I could trust knew what was going on but most people just knew I was on leave. If you want to PM to talk more feel free. Bipolar is not something to mess around with and if you're not feeling ok then taking time off is a must.

It’s a medical leave. You don’t need to give any details, just follow the short term leave policy. Just take care of yourself

Hey SM - you should explore FMLA options, I am sure every firm has it. They don't disclose information to anyone you work with. I know this because my wife took the FMLA for 6 weeks due to a family issue earlier. I really hope things get better for you.

Not sure what form you’re with, but you can request a 3 month leave at PwC at any time for any reason. I know people that have taken leave just to travel! So if you’re feeling like you need some time. Take it! Put you first!

Yea, it’s unpaid. But you can also take a medical leave of absence which may allow you to go on disability depending on your personal & financial circumstances. I think medical leave requires some sort of “doctors “ note. Hope this helps!

Ideas for quality protein sources that are easy to make at home and won’t break the bank? I’m getting sick of eggs and chicken breast and I’m lactose intolerant so avoid dairy. I can’t function. I don’t have energy to do the smallest things. All I want to do is sleep. I don’t have to feel pain or deal with life when I sleep. I left my job because of this. I have a history of clinical depression and this is the worst episode I’ve ever experienced. I made an appointment with a therapist and to get on meds. Do I qualify for state disability even though I quit my job?
