I just randomly stopped cause I ran out and couldn’t be bothered to go back to the dermatologist. My acne has gone down SO much since before I started taking it, but that also could’ve been the fact that I was 19 when I started taking it and 21-22 when I stopped, maybe my hormones balanced a bit. I would go back on it if you’re having such a bad reaction, definitely ask your dermatologist.

Very similar story here. I think I took it from 20-21. I still occasionally have acne now 15 years later, but have basically had decently clear skin since I went off it. Talk to your doctor.
I have been taking it for several years now and my doctor doesn’t have any plans to take me off it. He said he even had his wife continue taking it during pregnancy. I would say consult with doctor but don’t be afraid to use medicine to help what you can’t control!
That’s what I thought my doctor told me years ago but maybe there is new research. Haven’t tested it myself while pregnant, since I haven’t had kids. My main point is that I have been on it for years and derm is not planning to take me off it.
Cystic acne is hormonal. Spiro balances your hormones to keep your skin clear. It’s not an like an antibiotic with a short-term purpose because it can’t cure your hormones - you need to take it regularly or your acne comes back
Have not taken Spironolactone, but yes birth control since I was 13 (when I didn’t even know what birth control was) due to sever acne. After 14 years, I stopped it last year and the severe acne came back 💔 Basically my dermatologists (because I’ve been to many) told me my testosterone is high and only birth control calms it. There is no one-time treatment that will stop it. Only these daily pills (Spironolactone or birth control) can control it but never stop it. You have to live with it for life 😟 it could be you have the same high testosterone?
I likely do, but am not able to know for sure since Spiro blocks testosterone from showing up in a urine test. I did a DUTCH hormone test (at home) and found out I have lower DHEA, which apparently can cause acne. The test was super easy and came back with a full hormone panel.
I took it for 1.5 year and slowly weaned myself off (would not recommend since I’m not a doctor). It’s been 5 years and although i still get some breakout especially around period, it’s a lot better than before.
