I’m thinking about it but I can never bring myself to do it! The headache side effect keeps me away.
The reason I’m considering it is due to the frustration I feel due to being completely unorganized and not being able to focus. I never know what’s going on because my brain is all over the place. I come out of meetings clueless most of the time. I lean on my coworkers to decipher the hour long meeting into 2 sentences, lol!
I feel like I’m special needs. I guess I really am! What I really need is an ADHD coach.m
What are you experiencing?
I’m naturally unorganized and spacey, but have built a lot of strong habits to help me manage that. (which started with having an ADHD coach in college, and a fantastic manager/mentor at the right time early in my career). Meetings also got way easier once I became the one running the meetings, rather than just participating or listening in.
What I struggle with the most is motivating/focusing enough to get a piece of work started and staying focused on it long enough to see it through. I can do it, but unless I’m hyper focused it’s mentally exhausting, even anguishing and/or physically painful. I was on adderall in college which significantly improved my focus-regulation (like, I could decide to do something, and then do it... what a novel concept). I’d also love to be able to do productive things after work (like study for the GMAT) but because I’m so exhausted from forcing myself to focus at work, I never seem to have the energy to do anything remotely useful.
I’m hesitant to go back on meds because when I took them previously, I hated the way I felt whenever I took a day off. I felt sluggish, tired, totally unmotivated, and often couldn’t get out of bed if I didn’t take my meds. I also had some mild side effects (elevated BP and HR, reduced circulation to my hands and feet) but those didn’t bother me as much.
