Has anyone told their workplace early that they’re pregnant? I have awful morning sickness and only 7 weeks in but had to throw up while on calls so feel like I should explain why I had to jump off without explanation but a bit nervous if something goes wrong that I’ll have to explain that not pregnant anymore…

I told my main partner when I was 7 weeks because I was really sick and in/out of the hospital for fluids. I’d rather let them know why and have to explain a miscarriage then retroactively let them know why I was sucking on a project.

Same !

I started having terrible morning sickness — and eventually diagnosed with hyperemesis — at around 5 weeks and I have no qualms telling my managing attorney and being transparent.

I gotta put me first!!! (in Cookie’s voice!)

If the worst happen (*knock on wood*) then i’ll tell exactly what happened. That’s life.

I think as women, we need to start normalizing the sh*t we go through biologically, especially when we’re pregnant because although media and some ppl got glowing and easy pregnancy, a lot of us are suffering and we need as much support as we can!

Agree!!

Thanks all! Guess I’ll take the plunge and tell the immediate 3 partners I work with

i think this decision is 100% up to you - as you can see many of us have shared early (I shared at 9 weeks with my first and 12 with my second) - but def don’t let anyone pressure you not to share if you want to! It’s your news and yours alone to share ☺️ Congrats!!

I told everyone in my office and my department head at 9 weeks. My hours were dangerously low and I had to put my OOO on several times a day for two months because I was throwing up constantly. Everyone stepped up and supported me in the most fantastic way. So glad I told early.

I told them early as well. We were doing yearly planning and I wanted my goals this year to accurately reflect that I would be out in the second half of the year. I knew it would be hard to comeback and say I had a miscarriage if that was the case, but figured I could do so via a short email as that is a case where people would typically be okay with communication like that. Beat of luck, morning sickness is SO SO SO horrible

I told my manager at 17 weeks after early anatomy because we were putting in goals and I did not want them to be unrealistic.

like

With all who told work early- did you tell your families early too? If so when?

I did.

Yep, told them even before, while going through IVF. I was very fortunate to receive wonderful support and understanding on my need for flexibility. I'm all for transparency in this area, if the parents are comfortable of course

Nope - wait as long as you can 💕 at least until 20 week anatomy.

I'm a senior associate at a biglaw firm (currently billing 2,300/year (including client and non billables) who does not mind taking the pay cut if it actually means less work and no business development!

I’ve noticed that I am finding it hard to leave work “at work” and also not detaching myself emotionally from work. For example, if I send out a contract and it’s heavily marked up, I see red (no pun intended). Ill also think about it non stop until I provide my response (which is not good in am angered state. I’ve tried the standard coping mechanisms (count to 10, workout, etc.), but doesn’t help. Is this burnout? Any tips here?

I’d love to know how other people handle emails/notifications outside of work hours. Do you have notifications on? I personally don’t need to at my current role but am job searching and am coming to terms with the fact I might need to. I just hate the feeling of being “off” work and still seeing all the emails/notifications. I feel like I need to address it right away. I’m big on work life balance and having a separation but it seems like it isn’t all that realistic for some jobs

Are women here having issues finding appointments for initial prenatal visit? The first appointment I got will be at 11 weeks that too I was lucky because I had already scheduled with the doc for some other Obgyn issue back in July and they converted it to a prenatal appt. If I did not have that, I would have not got anything for the first trim. The other docs in the clinic also did not have appts. This sounds very risky. Heard from someone in Texas she did not get an appt until 16 weeks
