I lateralled into biglaw from a compliance job a couple of months ago because I was given a "too good to be true" opportunity (2 years out of law school), and I have regretted it ever since. Has anyone successfully left biglaw after one year and gone in house or boutique? (Please no nasty comments, we all make mistakes when that much money is involved). I can afford the pay cut thankfully, just worried about the ability to find work.

How are bonuses typically structured in all of your various firms? We are a small firm, relatively lucrative, hourly billing, few, if any, contingency cases. I am an associate as well as the office manager. I am expected to keep up with both jobs. When we discuss bonuses, the baseline is always billables only. I am essentially being docked for the admin tasks I must do - such as all HR, oversee clerks, interact with landlord, manage physical space, i.e. supplies, tech, materials. Advice?

Need some advice re: vacation time. Big law first year in restructuring. Just found out our first years won’t be starting until at least Jan. 2021. I’ve been pretty busy this month - will likely bill close to 300, so I really need a vacation. The other juniors (they’re not first years) in my group have taken four day weekends, but I’d really like to take a week off next month. I also haven’t take a vacation since I started last September. Should I follow the other juniors, or just take the week?

I’ve been a lawyer for a month and a half and every month my firm gives out a detailed income statement. It shows how much it costs to have us and how much we bring in. I’m routinely netting a loss for the firm. I try not to get too down on myself but seeing it every month is starting to get to me.
