Treating an animal like cargo is animal abuse. Maybe a plane isn’t the best way to travel with a dog that can’t fit under the seat in front of you.
United used to have a pet transport where the vehicle that transports them and the cargo hold was climate controlled. I think they either discontinued it or put it on hold. I'd assume there is a big market for people who'd like to fly their pets around.
Do none of you care that many people are very allergic to your animals and it can cause serious breathing difficulty trapped in a plane with limited ventilation?
And yes there are bad /annoying dog owners. Lobbying not to have fireworks is ridiculous. So is saying that your dog MUST be allowed on a plane. But I do feel like there is a reasonable middle ground that would work for all parties where responsible dog owners, who have reasonably sized& appropriately trained animals, could fly in the cabin of a plane
We drove 18 hours to Florida to avoid airplanes and to bring our 55lb dog. She did great in the car. We stopped every 2-3.5 hrs to let her (and is) out for a walk
Simple - fly private
I flew with my cat (~15 lb - she’s a Ragdoll) in cabin from Midwest to east coast. It was with Southwest, the middle seat was (and is?) open and we just put her under the front seat. It was a pretty good flight, $95 for the pet “seat” - I don’t think they have a weight limit for the pet, only for the size of the carrier, hope it helps!
Side note: We want to avoid having to put our dog in the cargo hold at all costs because he doesn’t do well in kennels and would likely lose his mind.
All airlines have stopped transporting dogs in cargo recently. We were not able to find a way to get our pup to Florida this winter so he stayed behind in a kennel.
I think they stopped allowing emotional support dogs in the cabin very recently
Just rent a car and drive (assuming it’s a long trip)
It’s a pretty unfortunate thing. As someone with a 25 lb dog and a family that lives on the other side of the country we have been working hard to find a workaround, but it really doesn’t look like there is one (other than PJ or driving). Would love to hear if anyone has found any other option so my parents can get to see their grandpuppy again someday!
I was just about to give an update! For now, Southwest’s ESA policies haven’t changed so ESA dogs are still allowed in cabin. The caveat here is that Southwest has less direct flights across the country so there may be a connection. Hopefully this helps ya!
