Has anyone tried coaching? I think it would be more helpful for my situation than traditional therapy. Recos for nyc?

I have done both but not in nyc. coaching was for my career change. Therapy for my anxiety. It can be helpful for your situation but I would be really careful to select the right coach. It is a very broad term. Also I don’t know your situation but make sure you are being honest with yourself about any cognitive behavioral issues. I would compare coaching to personal training versus actual care and mental health is that. Health. You wouldn’t go to a personal trainer instead your primary care physician for your annual physical right? :). That said, I worked with a great coach via telephone based out of Boston

@OM 1, thanks for your advice. You may be right. I’m convinced that my impostor syndrome is actual inferiority, and think I could use some better strategies for confidence, organizing my thoughts, articulating myself, leadership etc. But considering I have felt this way since I was a toddler, therapy may be in order to address the root cause :)

Look for coaches who are ICF-certified. They will have a CPCC title. Ask about their background and story and if it aligns to you. You have to also trust them. Wishing you all the best and sending much love. Trust yourself. You will find the right person for what you need right now.

(Cont.) I’m imagining anyone with a weekend course and a binder can call themselves a coach and don’t want to waste time and $ if that’s the case. If anyone has had success, would appreciate a recommendation. Thanks!

@OP. My recommendation is to reach out to a handful of coaches and therapists and interview them. It will help you gain clarity on what you need. Additionally a good professional will only take a client if they are the right fit and will speak a lot to fit. My current therapist is amazing and I feel like if I had been more frank about what I needed and was looking for with prior therapists I might have managed my anxiety much faster. Also. You got this! 🙌

Has anyone experienced blame shifting? In my romantic relationship we’re in sync 97% of the time but if I’ve constructive criticism, the dynamic flips, so I apologize to deescalate. I can’t ask for changes much. Like “next time you need spreadsheet help, try to plz anticipate it & not need it at 10 at night?” I’m reading that criticism’s perceived as a narcissist injury, oy! When the weekends come, I feel guilty for wanting to relax. I am not making as much money as I did two years ago ( after a series of shortcomings I took a job with an agency that I like, but the pay is not stellar) and feel that I need to use my time to either look for other jobs that pay more or do a side hustle. Any similar experiences?
