Has anyone used a classroom economy in their resource room? In the past we’ve just done jobs as they are needed, but this year my kids really want specific jobs and I like the idea of an economy.

So my supervisor over preschool was making site ‘visits’ last week. So the director was in my classroom not wearing a mask and was not practicing social distancing. What can I do(The director is not a person you can reason with. Talks down to the teachers)? Any advice?
Clarification: The reason for the site visit is that the ECE department is up for review this year and all admin are snapping at us for every little thing. Anything else then perfection is not acceptable.

What are you planning to implement this school year to focus on equity in your own classroom or campus wide?

Best ways to root out the red flags in a teaching job interview and a school tour? I'm finally ready to get back to the classroom but don't want to end up at another toxic place where admin doesn't look out for the teachers at all. I know to avoid places where janitorial stuff is being ignored or other health and safety issues, but this is only my second interview (worked for 10 years at my old school, left during covid). TIA!

I am leaving the classroom.

I don't want to manage so many humans at one time, anymore. I'm considering working remote to be able to travel more easily and figure out where I want to live and what I want.

Is there anyone who has left the classroom or the education field? What jobs were you able to transition into?

Does anyone have experience working for Connections Academy or another virtual academy? I am very interested in teaching from home, but most virtual jobs I have reviewed still require you to come to an office/ school building. I want to know what it is like, specifically the work load. Would you say more or less than public? How does classroom management, amount of grading, and freedom of curriculum differ?

Should respect be EARNED or GIVEN? 🤔 Chime in.

I come from the European culture of education where teachers are highly respected - very much like in the Japanese society where teachers get the utmost respect, as high as if not even higher than doctors / surgeons.

Students stand up when the teacher enters the classroom, say “hello” when seen in the hallway, etc. Teachers are (or at least are expected to be) GIVEN the respect by students. Seems in the US respect has to be EARNED.

Am I the only one whose paras speed up group work only to say “they did it all,” then look at me for more work or go back to sit at their desk? I seem to be making piles of work and while I can work with my groups without flying through it (and I am not stretching it out to kill time), they seem to want to be done. I know that it’s up to me to say go slower, don’t do their work, or just ok, do it again, but I am tired of having to not only keep kids but also adults on task. Just venting.

Do you find that most content teachers are willing to do/try Tier 1 interventions or do they depend on you to do them? Or do they just go straight to the Tier 2? I think more content/mainstream teachers need to learn that Tier 1 interventions are part of THEIR job descriptions, too!

Does anyone have experience with related service providers wanting to discontinue services because the student is no longer making progress? In my eyes this is absolutely not a good reason! What are your thoughts? I’m mainly talking about OT and PT services for kids older than 3rd grade. Is there something I’m missing? I would never discontinue a reading program because a student isn’t making progress - I would work my butt off to find a solution. Is it different with OT and PT?
