Not entirely true ^
I thought the same thing until I applied to 10+ companies through their website and got ~5 interviews.
If you’re applying to jobs on company sites, please hire a recruiter. 90%+ of jobs are acquired by knowing someone. If you don’t know someone, hire someone who knows someone. Applying to companies on their website is just sad.
Referral yes ....random recruiting company without a real relationship with the client can actually hurt you.
Best way to get anywhere is through a referral. For technical roles, applying through the web site works because they are simply matching words on your CV with the job requirement.
When you come from top firms, applying online works fine. Referrals and recruiters are great for sub par applicants that need help selling their case.
