Has anyone used an executive or business coach? For what? What were the results? Would you set out your goals differently if you did it again?

I’ve personally had several coaches in my career focused both on personal and professional development. I’ve always leveled up through working with them as they have a non-biased view on what you share and can guide you to see your blind spots and improve both strengths and weaknesses.

I’m using a career coach right now to help me with my mindset in job searching as it’s the most difficult it has ever been in my career to date. My goal is to obtain an offer by September (uncontrollable) so we have set goals around contacts, outreach, LI update, posts, etc (controllable). My coach provided me an excellent matrix for decision making when I’m stuck in my head. She pushes me when I get into a lack mentality. Happy to report I have a final round this week.

Ultimately a coach is there to help with mindset in any area of focus through challenging your limiting beliefs, holding you accountable to what you commit to, encouraging you to honor your truths, and serving as a non-biased party whom can reflect back your stated desired results to test if you are on track or need to redirect. Investing in your mindset will ALWAYS be a worthwhile investment.

Thank you for that detailed information. I hired an ICF certified coach at the recommendation of a VP at my company. I interviewed 4, chose this one. She seemed really focused and insightful but then when we actually started working together she only focused on my North Star type goals, I needed coaching in managing some real time issues in the office which she wouldn’t help me navigate. It taught me to be even more specific around what I need from a coach if I try again.

Reading your post suggests that there is a little bit of a chicken and an egg situation. If I can be crystal clear on the help I need a coach can help, but if I am struggling to articulate what help I need a coach can’t help with that situation. Food for thought for me.

Unemployment came out at 13.3% vs predicted 20%. How did economists miss it by this long? Don’t they just extract information from very recent data and project it only a few days into the future? Usually you hear 95% confident plus minus 1%. What’s the odd it’s 6% off?

Hi IBM sharks 🦈

So I got interviewed for a project by the IBM team. The interviewer told me that its a go ahead from their end, now the client will assess my profile and if they too are fine with it, I will be onboarded?

Is it true that we have client interview as well? If yes then after how many days of interview by IBM team, client interview takes place?

Or its just that if the IBM team is fine with it, we are selected for the project?

Any inputs on this will really help :)

Hello! Looking for book recommendations for how to manage people well. I’m starting my first job soon with direct reports and I want to be a good manager because I know how bad it can be to have a bad one. I really liked Radical Candor, so looking for recommendations from other managers for books that have really stuck with you and helped. I know it’s a hard skill to learn from a book, but better than nothing. Thanks!!

I work on a small 4 person remote team- 2 peers and our manager. My 2 peers were recently hired and started in February this year. I actually trained them since I have held that position (Manager). I have been at the company for 6 years and moved to a Sr. IC role. My skip-level was previously my direct manager. My manager told us about a plan to meet up in person this summer for team building. It slipped in a meeting today that everyone but me is included in going. More in comments.

Hello, All! I'm looking for recommendations on inspirational content for women leaders. I follow TEDWomen, many podcasts, and the Women's Conference among other sources. I'd love to hear a fresh perspective on business, trends, tech, marketing, equality in the workforce, etc. I'd love to learn something new. I'm at the VP level and have started a couple of companies, so nothing too junior, but open to many topics. Please share any speakers, books, webinars, or events that you may come across.

I’ve always gotten the advice that when you want to switch jobs you should take interviews from places you’re not actually interested in, so you can understand your value in the market and have better negotiating power.

I’m doing that rn - took a couple interviews to gauge my skills, my market value, and see what I need to work on for interviews that I actually care about.

However, I feel really guilty about wasting their time and going all the way knowing I’ll just say no at the end. Wwyd?

I received a job offer for a PM position with a base of $125K and a 10% bonus, fully remote and ok benefits. The parental leave is pretty bad, just FMLA and STD/LTD so the most I’d get is 60% of my salary for 12 weeks. I’ve cancelled most of my interviews except for one where the pay is $135K, 20% bonus, hybrid schedule, good benefits and 16 weeks fully paid parental leave. I’d like to start my family in a year or two - is it better to take the remote gig or the hybrid role with full paid leave?
