Consistently billing 190-200 hours per month but being told it's not enough. Firm average is about 165 but my group expects more of us. Anyone have tips for billing more/more efficiently? 200 feels like a struggle- not sure how people hit 250+. 2nd year lit associate if that helps!
My billable hours bonus requirement/target is 1900. Unless I pull a 300 hour month in December, I won’t be hitting that. The reason being is that in June, I had a parent pass which required me to travel overseas to take care of arrangements. I also had another family emergency in October that also required me to travel overseas. Do you guys think the firm will take this into consideration?

Has anyone hired an Independent Contractor to work for them on a 1099 basis without involving their firm? Like just person to person?
So…has anyone seen the EPIC HQ in Madison WI?! Because if not…wow. It looks like a literal chocolate factory. Not something you would expect, especially if you had to endure epic training. That make it look a whole lol more enjoyable for their staff there! Check it out!
Guys what is " short term incentive at 100% achivement" and "Short term incentive maximum on maximum achievement". Continental guys please help me to understand this 😐
I’m hiring another mid-level UX Designer to join my team! Great culture of kindness and inclusivity, great work-life balance, and the opportunity to work with other skilled practitioners in the UX field. The products we build are pretty cool, too.
Remote available but must be in the US and work 0% EST hours, since it reports to the NYC office. Hybrid also available if you’re local to NYC. DM me for details!

Healthcare is a tricky field because I recently broke a bone and was secretly grateful that I got to take some time off away from this mess. Does anyone else struggle with going to work every day?

Does anyone know of recruiting firms with a focus on Anti-money laundering? I’m foreign educated and newly admitted NY attorney with CAMS certification but living in Miami lol. I’m here, because my husband practices in SoFlo. Any recommendations? I don’t have any experience but have CAMS.

Applying for a job at a mid-size national firm that's asking for a cover letter, which is something I haven't written in 10+ years. Any suggestions on what a cover letter is supposed to look like in 2022?
Weird question- or confessional (unsure tbh)- do any of you ever play hooky? I billed all weekend (7 year atty in ID) and today is wicked weather in the south so I’m “wfh” but not really. I didn’t have time for Sunday scaries but now I’m having Monday guilts, as I cope by watching my dogs sleep and watch the GOT prequel out of the corner of my eye while going through emails. It’s not a monthly thing but I’m just tired. Thinking it speaks to my immaturity and hopefully not my job trajectory?

Online Tax LLM - Worth it?
I’m transferring over to the taxation division in my state AGs office. I have really limited tax experience, but I always have had some interest in tax policy and practice (even if tax law is for those who didn’t quite have the personality to be accountants 😜).
Being a proponent of continuing ed and looking to improve my future stock, would doing an online LLM program part time be worth it?

How do you guys manage to work-out as big law associates “on call” 24/7? I used to work out religiously but ever since I started practicing, I can’t get myself to get back. Anyone care to share routines and what works for them?
Out of the blue I'm getting advertised the reMarkable 2 paper-like tablet all over the place. Has anyone else used something like this as a replacement for legal pads (currently have like 12 on my tiny home office desk)? Is it worth it?
If an in-house recruiter conducts an initial interview with you, should you send a “Thank You” after? Or just wait to see if you get a callback?
Left my old firm on good terms but as time has passed and with therapy have realized how toxic it was. Just read that they were disqualified from a big case they were probably very excited to get due to a conflict of interest issue. Trying not to feel too much schadenfreude. That’s all.
How do you tow the fine line between sticking up for yourself and not talking back to a partner? For context, our firm has seemingly started making a paper trail for layoffs and I disagree with some of the emails that I have received. I want to respond in a way that covers my own ass. However, I don’t want to piss anyone off, especially if I have read the situation incorrectly.
Anyone have any crazy summer associate or general associate stories that happened at your firm? I’m reminscing haha
2nd year starting a District Court clerkship because I’ve always wanted to clerk. Am I going to have difficulty finding a job afterwards? What are some other potential or unforeseeable cons?
Billing question/firm expanded too fast.
Fifth year here. Started at new firm 6 months ago, and they hired 4 people for 2 empty spots (they are expanding). 1800 billing requirement is enforced but there are just days where I'm not busy/billing. I've emailed and gone door to door for work, but I think they expanded too fast and concerned about not hitting minimums. Any advice/similar stories?
Currently at an AmLaw 200 firm. 3rd year with comp of $190k. Really like the mentorship and the kind of deals so far. No complaints. But then just had an interview at an AmLaw 100 firm that pays market. The base pay difference is at least $60k. Based from interview and this bowl, second firm has good WLB and just overall a good firm. Would you move? I feel terrible just thinking about providing notice to my current firm….
