Has anyone used PayUSATax to pay their federal taxes with a credit card? They charge 1.96%. I think some of the credit cards will give you effectively 4%+ back. Is it worth it to use? I owe $150K so the effective fee will not be small ($3K).

Never in those amounts but yes I've used all three options I think. Not sure specifically what credit card(s) you are referring to, in general it isn't a bonus category ie online shopping, but it should work for a sign up bonus or normal spend if the value you get back is >2%.

After all that, I find myself watching every penny on my Amex bc money feels tight. Would love to move to a bigger city but PwC wouldn’t pay that much more & it’s hard to envision mortgage or rent doubling like it would in SF/LA/NYC. Tips for how to make your budget work? Let’s say you have two young, high income partners in a couple who want to buy a house together but don’t really care to get married. They already live together in an apartment but both want to move to a house to build equity and have a yard, not share walls, etc. Should one partner buy the house and the other pays rent until they get married, or should they get a mortgage together without being married? I realize there isn’t a “right” answer but I’m interested in people’s experiences here.
