If you're going to risk your safety to go on vacation, at least go somewhere cool like Rio. While it might not be as much of a thrill as entering a borderline war zone, I hear Tel Aviv is awesome too.
Ok @barcalys2 you need to look into shit. I was going to visit Iran with my good buddy from college who grew up and still has family there. Even he told me to wait it out a few years. I agree that a lot of people don't explore and appreciate that sentiment, but when multiple, multiple travel advisories go out, you should take them seriously.
I am originally from Iran, I can tell you generally Iran is not dangerous and it is one of the safest touristic destination, But that being said if you have American passport and try to be more adventurous than usual tourist that may rise a flag. So I say if you like to travel to Iran for two weeks and book everything through a local travel agency like www.gaptours.ir you won't have any issue and this travel will be remark of your decade. Enjoy food and hospitality of people.
Nope: I've had the privilege to visit Tel Aviv and Jerusalem and felt safe and welcome. American born midwesterner of Lebanese Greek heritage, so naturally my perspective/experience will be different from yours. Moving on...
Ermmmm...wait a few years
If you go to Iran the nuclear fusion tour is can't miss
There are so many other beautiful countries to visit...
@Barc5 if you are Jewish, you prob don't want to go to Iran...
With the exception of Israel, the Levant region is hostile and volatile. Don't go if you are Jewish, American, Christian, finance/executive etc... did anyone watch last Sunday CBS 60mins segment on Mary Quinn? Use an American tour co.for obvious reasons. please be safe and take extra precautions when you travel abroad.
GS3: Most firms have offices in Tel Aviv, bschool students are visiting Tel Aviv, etc. It's safer than the surrounding regions, yes.
Putin wrestles bears, I'd like to see that
Gotta love people that only thing they do is Ibiza and get drunk in NYC or Vegas. Honestly I've heard the same from several friends that have been. Certainly helps if you know some locally or go with someone that can speak the language and get around
Would you keep a tiger as a pet? Same logic.
@JPM1 believe me I've looked into shit.. I have multiple friends that have visited in recent years (one actually earlier this year) and had absolutely 0 issues. I think you need to look into it a bit deeper than just a travel advisory. It's just like going on any trip where they tell you how dangerous basic things are but then you realize it's just because the average person is scared of everything.
Had multiple friends visit this year, including one just in August. The pictures and stories they came back with were stunning. The stories did not involve raging all night so if that's the vacation you're looking for, look elsewhere.
