Has anyone weaned off of their adhd meds after a few years? Why? And what was your experience? I’ve been diagnosed but hesitant to start meds because of no end date. I had been on anti depressants and anxiety meds for years and worked hard in therapy to address my issues. Finally weaned off (over a decade on meds) but not sure if this is possible with ADHD.

I have not because I haven’t wanted too. My understanding of ADHD is that doesn’t go away, though things that you struggle with may change or you may learn how to cope with it in better ways. I have decreased my dosage over the past year though, by working with an ADHD specialist in therapy, learning to accommodate myself better, and by managing anxiety better. I don’t anticipate that I will ever stop medication. It’s annoying, but also I don’t like the feeling of hopelessness and loss of self control that I feel without it.

Hiring manager even said they had to interview other applicants before coming to a decision (all 3rd round applicants passed excel test) and now none of them are qualified for the job?

After nearly a decade at disorganized small firms where I wore many hats (and sometimes nearly every hat!), I accepted a biglaw offer as part of a team of maybe a dozen Legal Secretaries. This firm invests a lot into training and staffing, which I think would be great for an ADHDer like myself. The firm has great Glassdoor reviews and everyone I have spoken to so far seems really happy there. But I am still nervous about the transition straight to biglaw. Any advice?

Vyvanse certainly doesn’t help the anxiety, especially when I’m coming down off it for the day. I finally got diagnosed with ADD, inattentive type, at 28 years old. I’ve known I had depression and anxiety for years, but the symptoms and treatment never added up. It took WFH in a pandemic to realize maybe I had ADD, and still months of being dismissed and made to feel like I was crazy before I found a doctor to administer the MMPI. I feel validated, finally, but I can’t help feeling grief too over so much lost potential and unnecessary failure, especially in law school and my career.
