Never heard of an arrangement like this
I’ve never seen this before, but I could see it being a positive if it prevents associates from doing work that *should* be pushed to a paralegal because they’re trying to get extra billables.
But, it could end up awful if the paralegal doesn’t end up being productive or is not great at doing things that you want to delegate down and is unable to learn those things. I think it is fair to ask what the shared billable amount is at this point with that disclosure from them. Then, ask how things like the above are addressed since you likely won’t have authority to fire a paralegal who is dragging your hours down.
