Consulting

Has anyone worked for both D and ACN(consulting) that can compare the pros/cons of each? Specifically re: wlb, comp, culture, advancement

Just started at D 3 months ago from acn (technology not consulting) and so far blown away and love it. Overall, better quality of work, people, and brand as a firm imo. Also very impressed with how the covid-19 situation was handled by Deloitte. It’s not for everyone, you have to have a specific ambitious personality where you actually care about your job. If you’re laid back you’ll probably hate it.

Following. So far, acn seems to have better pay

At acn, there’s a pay difference between consultants and technologist. At D, technologist get paid consulting salaries so those people are the ones you hear about that get 20-40% bumps. As a consultant with a lateral offer to D, I was getting only a 5-10% bump (and the D benefits were worse)

D is very respectful and I’ve found the pace to be moderate. Emphasis on work smart and less busy work. Maybe it’s due to my new title

I worked for both in different practices so it might not be exactly apples to apples but here you go: 1. Wlb - Definitely better at ACN. Deloitte requires you to do a ton of firm activities in addition to being billable, where as Accenture only cares about you being billable 2. Comp - Deloitte is generally notorious at bringing you a level down than your current level (if external hire ), pay wise probably not much of a difference unless you aspire to make Principal at D (which I believe pays much better than ACN MDs) 3. Culture - Deloitte does have its own culture, maybe because of the way it is set up (partnership model). Accenture, not so much 4. Advancement : If you ask me, the best way to advance in Deloitte is to join out of undergrad , the homegrown folks have a definite advantage over external hires , probably somewhat true in case of Accenture too

Re: leveling down - I was an experienced hire from another b4 consulting group with 1 yoe. I recruited for consultant, but they brought me in as an Analyst at 95k+10k, and then promoted me after a year (so still on the same track as the usual campus hire albeit slightly higher comp, I think). Have so far had awesome projects and very happy with D.
