I’m an American born desi, and came from an Indian Muslim family so I didn’t grow up learning much about castes. But after the recent exposure to the social complexities in the culture back at India.... I’m curious what the castes are for those in this bowl (filled with relatively successful people) and how it affected you? If you could change the obsession with castes, would you?

Annoyed with myself (and work culture): my neighbor came banging on my door this morning to tell me we needed to evacuate because there was a possible bomb threat outside our building. My first instinct wasn't to get out of there as quickly as possible for my safety; instead it was "oh I should grab my work computer and I'll go find internet somewhere so I don't miss a deadline." 🤦🏼

I’m at a new agency and there are a couple of things about the culture I’m really struggling with. 1) Nobody has cameras on. Ever. I understand not having them on occasionally. But this is the norm1 large and small meetings. 2) No small talk. I understand we are all busy but there’s absolutely no “how was your weekend” discussion. What can I do about this? I’ve been at two agencies and never experienced this. I know I can’t ask people to turn on cameras but I try and set an example myself.
