Teared up a bit. I think besides the common symptoms of ADHD, most people never know how much of a toll it takes on a person’s self-worth and esteem. For me, that’s the story that matters and no one ever really talks of

like

BCG1, it really moved me as well, like few things ever have. I've had my share of successes but it's been purely from the grit I've developed from a difficult path. Your point about self-esteem and worth is right on.

If I may, I'm inspired by the fact that you are where you are. I have no aspirations for MBB, like many on this site, but success stories are what keep me going. I've done well at KPMG but I'll hit my ceiling at some point, below where I probably should be. I really enjoy my work though, so it's ok.

Looking forward to further discussions on this bowl. Thanks.

I know I’m a little late to the party, but thank you for posting this! It really hit home for me as well. I haven’t had quite the struggle that she has had, but I definitely feel or have felt all the pressures that she discusses.

As you both mentioned, it is so much more than the common symptoms that really takes a toll on you. I am only in my second year of my career, but I have already started to realize how much more difficult this disorder will make accomplishing my goals. The feedback I receive is that I am the hardest working and brightest associate in my class but also that I am often late or running behind schedule or that I that I am forgetful or that I am bad at the administrative tasks. Unfortunately, most people just think these things occur because I am lazy or that I don’t care about my job. They tell me that I need to work on these things, but what they don’t know is that I have been working so hard on these things forever.

I just really wish people understood this part of the disorder a little bit better.

My mental health is declining so low because of work. I really want to take a long break or quit because I honestly feel like I can’t handle this pressure. I have a call with a therapist (first call) tomorrow and I hope to get some good advice there. I just have never felt this low before in my life and am scared for my mental health. Anyone feeling this way?

I just went through a rough time dealing with depression, PTSD, and anxiety. I didn’t seek help earlier because I didn’t want to appear weak or less capable than my male counterparts. I tried to ignore the elephant in the room and it almost cost me too much. I am glad that someone convinced me to seek professional help. That was the best decision. If you’re struggling with stress at work, let me tell you: your mental health is more valuable! Reach out and talk to someone. It can save your life.

I went to a psychologist and answered an ADHD questionnaire, basically scoring the highest possible score for ADHD. Long story short: the psych told me that since I made it through law school with a decent/good GPA l don’t have ADHD.

Has anyone been told this? I.e., that since you’re a “professional” and have had good grades you don’t have ADHD? I just feel it’s a bit unfair since I had to work myself to the bone just to stay focused and understand the material.
