I was laid off from a resource management role, working with employees approaching or on the bench, working with managers to staff projects, and support functions like report creation, scheduling, etc. Roles like this are few and many large consulting firms have frozen internal hiring. Do you think it would be beneficial to get a SHRM cert? Would that help get a "talent related" HR role? Worth the money? I have a background in recruitment as well.
I got laid off during Covid and pivoted to PM at FAANG and a partner is reaching out to me about rejoining. A part of me misses consulting but have the salty taste of my lay off experience.
Looking at the way people are laid off, utilization is just one part of it. It's so hard to pin point what is (proper consultants let go from projects, etc..)
Was lucky to get a job shortly after being laid off. Work’s not hard but feeling burned out cause of bad process, meaningless jobs on top of the pointlessness of everything happening. How you coping?
KPMG announced no 2020 layoffs, but at this point, has any other firm provided this or a similar plan forward to protect employees during these times?
There is truly nothing like going through the shock of layoffs and then seeing your closest coworkers still here at the end of the day. Hold you peeps close today folks ❤️ 😔
What are the best reasons to go full-time after freelancing? I started freelancing a month ago after I was laid off thinking it would just be temporary but I’m really enjoying it so far. My stress levels are lower and the money is better. I have a few full time opportunities in the mix and I’m trying to gauge if I should go back to full-time or stick with freelance. For those who have taken a full time gig after a successful freelance run, what did you base your decision on?
Strategists never get fired. Next to Account. Creative and production are chopped first. To make the insult worse, Strategists get hired faster everywhere. Perceived value is everything.
It is very difficult to do my job and think creatively when I’m living each day in constant fear of being laid off. I’m grateful to have a job, but damn, sometimes I feel like I’m coming apart at the seams. Happy Saturday, everyone.
I got laid off and 3 weeks later a SC from HR sends me an email about an opening at the firm. Should I apply???
I'm a first year atty. I make $45K at a small firm of 5. In the last three weeks, my assistant has been fired (caught with pot on break), another paralegal quit, and now another assistant has resigned. I have a caseload of 80, with no help. Boss says they are looking, they made an offer, but if that person accepts, it will be weeks before they are ready. I'm falling apart and crying at my desk and can't sleep. Told owner. "Hang in there." Do I walk now? Or hang in there?
I have a gov law job with an offer to go to a great firm as a mid-level associate. Worried that if COVID continues, I’ll get laid off (much less likely at my gov job). Should I wait or go?
I’ve been laid off and, as I embark on my job search, I’d like to keep my marketing skills sharp. Any recommendations on must read books, or resources?
What are the signs that you’re getting laid off? And how quickly can that decision be made? Is it possible to have poor performance today, then laid off as soon as tomorrow?
I just got notified of moving to the next step in the interview process and am supposed to meet with a “teammate/ other consultant”. Any idea what this entails and the general tone of the discussion? More akin to peer interview/ just generally making sure I’m not a weirdo?
I know my boss is interviewing. And I'm not surprised that nobody will hire him. But, I sure wish someone would!
Really feeling defeated about trying to change my career to accounting...considering my choice. I have a masters in accounting, but the CPA exam is really giving me problems. Advice?
Anyone interviewed for the Implementation service line at McKinsey & Company? Curious to learn more about the business as well as how the interview looked like. Appreciate sharing your thoughts on this. Thank you!
Has anyone pivoted from consulting to IB or vice versa? How quickly were you able to pick up the skills for the other role’s interview process / career?
Hello! I have a two part question: 1) is it worth it to obtain an SHRM specialty credential if I don’t have the broader SHRM certification? 2) has anyone gotten the People Analytics or Talent Acquistion credential? If so, how valuable was it from a learning perspective? Do you feel it significantly contributed to your knowledge in either area? Thank you!
I interviewed for a role for another team within my organization and went on PTO for 2 days. When I came back my director told me I didn’t get the role but there were better plans for me in the near future. I found out from HR after that I did get the role but the organization decided to pause the offer waiting for another one in the near future. How would you react if your Director and company make a career choice for you without consulting with you?
Best firm for financial tax in Seattle area? In terms of the team vibes, company culture, growth opportunities, benefits and pay, work life balance.
Are there any blackout days for vacation at EY? If I have a vacation in my ARMS for months, can somebody push back and say we need you? I spent a lot of money and time planning this trip...
Just got a head of planning role and have been asked what I want for a title. What are planning department heads called these days? Executive Planning Director? Something Strategy? Planning Poobah?
End goal: strategy at a large industry player (auto, apparel, etc) Is it more logical to use the mba to jump right into those companies or use the mba to get into Mbb/tier 2 and then jump?
Got invited to ExperienceBain this summer, incoming Kellogg MBA. Does this mean anything in terms of their interest in me or chances of getting an internship next summer?
Holy cow. Received an offer and the bi-weekly contributions for health insurance is like $150 for one person. Is that normal? Am I missing something? This is a large global company.....why so much
Maternity leave is ending soon and we'll be hiring a nanny. Any recommendations on services to facilitate payroll, taxes, workers comp? Would love to hear examples of what people are using. Thanks.
Does McK still have their referral in place? How about BCG or Bain? Anyone want to refer?
