I’m 34 and am trying to FIRE at 52. Until my youngest kid is off to college, I don’t have freedom anyways so figure i might as well work 😂

So did earlier deaths

32 and ready. Will open a business though. No more w2 for me soon enough 💁🏻‍♂️

Yes very excited. I do Real estate rentals and spouse job also makes great income. Pwc helped get us there but the choices around investments allowed this. It’s a Franchise business we signed into. Not food. But profit per year median income is about $400k or so. The entities that do well can be double that. It’s a significant loan leveraging SBA7a. Can provide more details if anyone truly interested via DM but won’t post broadly.

I tried out retirement. Great trips, but lacks meaning. By "meaning", I mean not having anything to complain about. After many years of fixing problems and people in my own businesses, I'm back working on a W2 by my choice. It's a lot more fun working when youre not trying to climb up the ladder as fast as possible. Thats the beauty of FIRE. I choose.

And I’d add that such an idle retirement is actually not good for you. This is a sample size of one, but my grandfather (who was a very brilliant college professor back in the day) retired at 60 and did nothing but travel, fish, and watch wheel of fortune every day at 6:00. To this day, I’m convinced that contributed to what ended up as severe dementia. My other grandfather, by contrast, was an entrepreneur who never gave up working; he took it easier later on, but he was as sharp as a tack until the end. Just my experience, though.

The concept of FIRE is that it all depends on what you want. To totally disengage? I don’t think I’d like that. But certainly the goal is not working for anyone but you (and your investors). And, if you’re smart enough, managing those who work for your investments in the company you control or have a stake.

I was laid off from a resource management role, working with employees approaching or on the bench, working with managers to staff projects, and support functions like report creation, scheduling, etc. Roles like this are few and many large consulting firms have frozen internal hiring. Do you think it would be beneficial to get a SHRM cert? Would that help get a "talent related" HR role? Worth the money? I have a background in recruitment as well.

Looking at the way people are laid off, utilization is just one part of it. It's so hard to pin point what is (proper consultants let go from projects, etc..)

What are the best reasons to go full-time after freelancing? I started freelancing a month ago after I was laid off thinking it would just be temporary but I’m really enjoying it so far. My stress levels are lower and the money is better. I have a few full time opportunities in the mix and I’m trying to gauge if I should go back to full-time or stick with freelance. For those who have taken a full time gig after a successful freelance run, what did you base your decision on?

Strategists never get fired. Next to Account. Creative and production are chopped first. To make the insult worse, Strategists get hired faster everywhere. Perceived value is everything.

I'm a first year atty. I make $45K at a small firm of 5. In the last three weeks, my assistant has been fired (caught with pot on break), another paralegal quit, and now another assistant has resigned. I have a caseload of 80, with no help. Boss says they are looking, they made an offer, but if that person accepts, it will be weeks before they are ready. I'm falling apart and crying at my desk and can't sleep. Told owner. "Hang in there." Do I walk now? Or hang in there?
