Has the left completely devolved into identity politics at this point? Can’t read a single political article without race or gender being mentioned when talking about the candidates

It’s a writing technique. You describe the subject in detail, which can include ethnicity, gender, etc. There is also covering the candidate’s beliefs and positions, which might be important to the reader.

At this point, I have trouble separating Republican and Evangelical.

Perhaps this is congruent enough for you, Dir1. This is a photo, so even you can’t dispute the “evidence” here.

Decreased regulations in this case literally means corporations can now dump toxic chemicals directly into ground water. This makes America great how? If you’re willing to trade an extra 20 points on the DJIA for poisoning - literally , not figuratively - the environment, you’re a special kind of person.

Go to a Trump rally to see identity politics on steroids.

likefunnysmart

See why I’d not vote for trump again. Real issues have been reduced to “its the lefts fault”.
I’m a moderate right leaning voter but Trump is not the one that would unite us all.

You are a serious something

Trump’s MO is identity politics. As a nominally centrist/occasional center-right voter, the GOP sold their soul to put him in power. In the run up to 2016 there was a solid candidate field including John Kasich and Marco Rubio. We lobotomized ourselves in going with Trump - how can the rest of the country every trust us again to put forward a moderate, incremental center-right agenda?

I actually studied history, Dir1, but thanks.

Would suggest you look at Republican policies pre-Reagan.

In addition, looking at western politics beyond the US, the Overton window is *way* right of even most right-wing governments.

The truth is that because our politicians are owned by corporations, the only things they are really paid to do is lower tax cuts, pass laws that help them, and provide corporate welfare when needed.

So what can they run on? They can’t really talk about passing laws that will improve things because they cost money, money is for corporations. So they need to stand for something that is free, identity politics including gender, immigration, religion, choice. That is basically the only difference between both sides aside from a few candidates who don’t take money. They work for the same people, they’ll pretend as much as possible to be on the opposite side.

Just look at Healthcare. When Obama was in office, Republicans successfully passed laws that would repeal Obamacare through the house and senate over 60 times knowing that Obama would veto it. As soon as they take office they’re like oh shit, we control all 3 branches now. They are forced to put it to a vote only to fail due to a few Republicans including McCain at the end going the other way although in the past they had voted to repeal it, why? Because ObamaCare has an insurance mandate which is basically a giant giveaway to insurance companies. How many times did they attempt it, even after McCain was replaced? Only that one time. They are both the same corrupt party, they need to fight over things like identity politics, and more importantly have us continue to fight over it as well so we don’t notice as they’re robbing us, that’s all they have.

The book Broken Branch is good read and not long. McConnell lead the effort to delegitimize Obama as an effective president. McConnell understood that bipartisanship gave any bill automatic legitimacy in america. The use of filibusters skyrocketed in 2008. He pushed the party to be 100% combative with no compromise.

In addition he began the process of breaking norms

My joining is on 2nd Nov in TCS. still didn’t get the welcome mail and the information regarding the joining location. Anyone facing the same??

I’m burnt out from trying to drive creative solutions for my team and clients. All everyone seems to wants is simple block & tackle tactics that don’t have deeper strategic meat to them. The briefs I read are constantly off strategy and there’s honestly seems to be a lack of common sense (e.g., don’t kick off a tactic the client doesn’t know about).

It sucks even more because pharma is already highly regulated and restrictive with how creative you can be. I just feel so spent and uninspired.

A red tidal wave on election night. Unfortunately, this is the 21st century and elections last for weeks now. Once again (just like 2020) races are slowly moving back to democrat control after Election Day. Are we surprised?
My takeaways-

1. People care more about abortions than the impending recession and inflation. Or at least they THINK they care more thanks to the media.

2. Desantis over Trump for 2024. Desantis has unmatched support. Trump politicians are still losing & so will he
